Mario.
Zelda's played out, in my opinion. They need to do something completely new to win me over again.
Zelda. There's more to do in those games and always have a nice story. I do love me some Mario, though.
I pick Mario over Zelda. It offers more gameplay and replayability. For me anyways. I still constantly play New Super Mario Bros., Galaxy, and World a ton. I replay Wind Waker once every two years or so. I think it goes without saying, however, that I think Pikmin is Miyamoto's best video game.
Are you left footed or right footed? thats the best way to solve that question. In Nintendo's case they are right footed, Mario is the right and Zelda the left both are required but Nintendo without its mascot?????Sony buys Mario PS3 becomes best console?????? Lol.That's like choosing which leg to cut off...it's way too hard! They're both legendary.

Mario, and with all due respect to the Zelda series, this was an easy choice to make. Mario just has the charm to appeal to a wider range of people than Zelda games do, and the Mario series is the one gaming franchise on this planet that everyone looks forward to each and every gen to show what a Nintendo system can do, with shows the importance of the franchise. Plus, when I look back at not only the recent history of games, but throughout the years, I'm usually more fond of the Mario game within that same gen that a Zelda counterpart was released (the only exception possibly being Wind Waker over Super Mario Sunshine).
Oh yeah, I wasn't even talking about the games outside of the main Mario installments, which are a plus for the plumber. :P
