If MP3 Corruption is the last of this series, what will the next Metroid be?

We all know that Corruption is the last of the "Prime" series.

Now does this mean Metroid will no longer be a first-person shooter?  Or does this mean just a new story will begin with a new series?

What do you think?

Maybe they'll leave it for the Wii 2 and make something state of the art. I'd like a new 2D Metroid on DS with the New Super Mario Brothers treatment, 3D characters etc.tomarlyn

The DS idea is cool. I can see potential with touch controls in a side-scrolling Metroid. 

Your ideas are all crap. The next Metroid is going to be a kart racer. You can pick up items like metroids and then you can throw them at peoples heads and they can't see ala Mario Kart DS' blooper. christhepenguin

Im gonna guess a 3rd person Adventure. This will Focus on Samus and what she is. A Bounty Hunter. I mean it would be cool if they could make it a Sand Box game and fly aroud the galaxy looking for bounties....using money to upgrade ship, armor, abilites, and weapons. With diverse races of Aliens. Online Dog fights, Death matches, and my fav CTF.

i hope they keep the same format too. if they went 2D side scroller i wouldnt touch it

Here's my take.

Whatever installment won't be coming out until the next Nintendo console comes out.
It will be either a prequel to the original or a sequel to Super Metroid.
It might potentially feature a new leading character... possibly male?  This one is highly improbable, though.
It will follow a similar formula to previous Metroid games, meaning it will be a non-linear adventure/shooter.  Whether it's 1st or 3rd person remains to be seen, but don't expect a side-scroller on a console again.

But... what do I know?

The next series will probably take place after Fusion. Personally I'd like to see a completely new enemy. Maybe there is a power struggle in the Galactic Federation, which leads to Civil War. Samus must then chose a side and change history. It would be more interesting than fighting the space pirates every mission.TheLordMagnus

i think that, that would be brilliant. the idea of teaming up with one of the sides would be great and having actual battles with heaps of people on each side. Making it a war style game but in some parts fly solo 

Maybe in 3rd person, with RPG leveling element added on to it. Like being able to level up certain parts or weapons on your suit. In 3rd person some of Samus's abilities would be awesome. Maybe some new suit power ups. proudeskimo

They will probably make something that connects to the story but isn't a direct sequel. Kind of like how Metroid Prime: Hunters took place between MP1 and MP2.

It would be awesome if they made a story of Samus' origin, before the original Metroid.

cause Raven Blade was going to be made by Retro Studios but it was discontinued in favor of Metroid Prime. A good decision.

The next one will be a sequel to fusion

personally, Super Metroid is still my favorite. I would like to see a new 2D metroid but with 3D-type or better looking backgrounds. But that is more likely to be on the DS i guess. But all metroid games are pretty fun so i'll play whatever comes out. It would be sweet if we could fly in between different planets which each had their own unique landscapes.

Man, I've wanted this for so long!  I think it would change the gameplay a lot, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.  Bounty Hunters have so much gameplay potential because it would be so easy to convert their games to sandbox style.   I would just say that they do need to keep the same feel and general style of the Metroid games, though.  We don't want another Starfox on our hands.
