Jay Cutler[Miami Herald] NFL folks at the Senior Bowl say coach Nick Saban was enamored with Jay Cutler and told a team official that Miami would be in great shape if it could acquire the Vanderbilt QB.

In other Dolphins news, Saban associates say he wants to make a major signing on the O-line (New Orleans C LeCharles Bentley and Seattle G Steve Hutchinson are potential targets). Saban also commended Vernon Carey for making ''very nice progress'' at right tackle, though he was assured of nothing in a season-ending meeting.

I'll be posting Fins Offseason news in this thread every now and then, I just thought I would let you guys know.

Yeah, feel free to post stuff like GoPhins did.....it can be specific to your favorite team, but let's not go too far in depth....I don't want it cluttered.

Won't keeping this stuff in one thread make the union seem really slow for the next several months?

It's just info. not reactions or anything more.....just the facts.  But it'd be nice to keep all prospective draft stuff in one thread (instead of a bunch of three post threads scattered throughout the board).  And if you haven't already noticied, this board already moves painfully slow.  Entire opinions will go outside of this, and the facts will stay in here.

Dolphins Add Pair To Coaching Staff For 2006
February 10, 2006

The Miami Dolphins today named Kirby Smart as their safeties coach and Bo Davis as their assistant strength coach/assist with the defensive line.

“I’ve worked with Kirby and Bo and know the qualities they possess,” said Dolphins Head Coach Nick Saban. “They both have coached at successful major college programs, allowing them to make a smooth transition to the NFL. They are excellent teachers and will be positive additions to our staff.”

Smart joins the Dolphins after spending the 2005 season as the running backs coach at the University of Georgia. In his lone season in that post, the Bulldogs averaged 162.2 yards rushing per game and a 4.6-yard average per carry, as they ranked third in rushing in the Southeastern Conference. Prior to that, Smart spent 2004 as the defensive backs coach on Nick Saban’s LSU staff. That year he tutored a pair of cornerbacks who were selected in the 2005 NFL Draft in Corey Webster (2nd round, Giants) and Travis Daniels (4th round, Dolphins). Smart was a four-year letterman as a defensive back at Georgia from 1995-98, and was a first-team All-SEC selection as a senior. After going to training camp with Indianapolis as an undrafted college free agent in 1999, he spent the ’99 season as an administrative assistant on the Georgia football staff. He served the next two years at Valdosta State, including 2000 as the school’s defensive backs coach and 2001 as defensive coordinator/linebackers coach. A two-year stint (2002-03) as a graduate assistant at Florida State preceded his move to Baton Rouge. A four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll at Georgia, Smart earned his undergraduate degree in finance. He earned his Master’s degree from Florida State in 2003.

Davis also enters his first NFL season, having served the last four years (2002-05) as assistant strength and conditioning coordinator at LSU. Davis was a three-year letterman as a defensive lineman for the Tigers from 1990-92. After earning his degree in 1993, he served as a graduate assistant with the LSU strength and conditioning program from 1995-97. He then served as an assistant coach at Northshore High School in Houston from 1997-2002.

Left Tackle McIntosh Arrested...
Posted on: 2006-02-15
[Sun-Sentinel] Police arrested Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Damion A. McIntosh on domestic violence charges after he allegedly pushed his wife to the floor during an argument Wednesday morning, officials said.

Officers arrived at McIntosh's Davie home in the 2100 block of Lynx Avenue about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in reference to a 911 call, said Lt. Bill Bamford, a police spokesman.

McIntosh's wife, 27, called police from a bathroom, where officers found her unresponsive and lying face down on the floor, the arrest report said.

When officers asked McIntosh what happened, the arrest report said he showed them a study on the west side of the house and said: "We got into an argument. I pushed her to the floor. She hit her head pretty hard."

Police tried to interview his wife, but she was incoherent and unable to speak, the arrest report said. She suffered a possible head injury and was taken to Cleveland Clinic in Weston.

McIntosh was arrested on one count of domestic violence and booked on the felony charge into the Broward County Main Jail.

"We understand the serious nature of the charges and certainly don't condone in any way the type of conduct which has been alleged," said Dolphins head coach Nick Saban. "However, we will not make a comment about this specific matter until we collect more information."

Practice Bubble Construction Begins...
Posted on: 2006-02-15
[Official Site] The Miami Dolphins have begun construction on their indoor practice facility, which is being built on the west side of the existing training facility building in Davie. Stiles Corporation of Ft. Lauderdale is the general contractor.

The 96,600 square-foot structure is scheduled to be completed in July, coinciding with the opening of Dolphins training camp. Numerous team practices in recent years had been cancelled, shortened or rescheduled because of inclement weather. The facility will allow the team to move indoors when such conditions arise and will also provide a respite from South Florida's heat and humidity when the team chooses.

The facility, which will contain a regulation football field, also should help the Dolphins from a competitive standpoint as it will allow for closer game simulation during practice, especially in days approaching road games. The facility will feature FieldTurf, which could be utilized in weeks leading up to games at stadiums with the same or similar surface. It also allows for climate control as well as simulating potential crowd noise.

Thomas Willing To Renegotiate Contract...
Posted on: 2006-02-14
Zach Thomas[Palm Beach Post] Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas will be owed a bigger salary next season; his pay is scheduled to increase from $3.5 million in 2005 to $4.95 million in 2006. But he said he will renegotiate if the team needs salary-cap room.

"I'm OK with that," said Thomas, who expects talks to begin soon between the Dolphins and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. "Anything to help the team out." Thomas said he would be happy to accept any new, hard-working teammate. That includes receiver Terrell Owens, who will be traded or released by Philadelphia.

"The guy has a lot of respect for working hard and he makes plays," Thomas said. "He had his mess-ups in the past, but it was all off the field."

CB Law Interested In Miami...
Posted on: 2006-02-14
Ty Law[Kansas City Star] Cornerback Ty Law said he expects the Jets to release him shortly after the Pro Bowl. In his one season in New York, Law led the NFL in interceptions with 10 and earned another Pro Bowl berth. He basically signed a one-year deal with the Jets because he had to prove he could recover from a 2005 foot injury.

If the Jets release him, what kind of guaranteed, bonus money is Law looking for from his new team?

“I’d say around $10 million,” he said. “There are a lot of teams interested. Miami is talking about getting Steve McNair down there, and if the Dolphins get a quarterback, they’re a real contender for the Super Bowl. That’s what it’s all about for me right now. I need to win another title.”

Yeah I'm a diehard Eagles fan, and it really blows that we did sooooo terribly this season and we still only get a mediocre pick.

got the short end of the stick there.

After declining to use the franchise tag on Charles Woodson for another year and cutting SS Derrick Gibson, the Oakland Raiders have cut three more players; DT Ted Washington, G Ron Stone, and CB Denard Walker were all released today, giving the Raiders just $14.8 million left to shave off the cap.

I know this is old, but TE Vernon Davis ran a 4.38 in the 40. That is unbelievable at his size, 6'4" and 255 lbs. I think he will be a top ten pick and should be.

Free agency starts at 12:01 AM, Saturday, March 11, 2006. The new salary cap will be $102 million which is a $16.5 million increase from last year. Now just about every team can get involved in this offseason.

If that does happen, the Saints should trade down, pick up more picks.  It would throw the whole draft for a loop, that would be fun.

Lawyer Milloy signed a 3 year-$6 million contract with the Falcons. I think Milloy will provide veteran leadership to the Falcons secondary but I still think they should still draft a young defensive back because they really don't have any depth.

The Cowboys could build a Jersey wall in the front of Drew Bledsoe and he still wouldn't win games....Perhaps it's a good move, but not when your QB is Drew Bledsoe.

Seahawks chose not to match the offer for Steve Hutchinson, so he goes to the Vikings.wallymartin

That's why Shaun Alexander shouldn't of signed an 8 year deal. Adam Vinatieri signed with the Colts. I wonder how Patriots fans feel about that.

Denver gives their 1st round pick and a couple of mid-rounders to Atlanta in exchange for their 1st round pick.  Atlanta then trades that 1st round pick to the Jets for John Abraham.

And apparently the Colts have picked up Adam Vinatieri.
