I saw the hero poll a couple weeks ago where everyone was voting for one character. Nathan Drake and the Apprentice were beating the likes of Mario, Gorden Freemen, and a couple other huge iconic characters. I hope this has nothing to do with those poles because really... Nathan Drake and the Apprentice being the most voted for? ugh.

I went in there the first night and it showed a bunch of people, I though I read it was just the first part of voting. I voted and left after seeing the numbers. So I take back my statement because I thought I saw some familiar faces in there. Guess I was mistaken, I am sorry to all of those who have read my post!

Alot of things can be judged for what is a great hero. Don't get all whiney because some of us don't see Mario as a clear cut winner. He just isn't.

You can make a case for any other character for why they are a great hero. Hell even on Nintendo's side I don't think Mario is on par with even Samus or Link as far as a "hero". Having the greatest games don't necessarily make you the greatest hero.

Its impressive that he has stood the test of time, but there are cases you can make for many characters that were alot more interesting such as Solid Snake, Ico, The Wander, The Prince, etc.jg4xchamp

actually no, Shigeru Miyamoto's career started with donkey kong... well technically Radar Scope.

Radar Scope is a game no one remembers, so Donkey Kong got Miyamoto started. And Mario was in Donkey Kong.;)

actually this is where I step in, the only genre of characters on that list that mario influenced was platformer characters.

FPS characters were all either influenced by games like Doom and wolfenstein

the RPG ones were all obviously influenced by games like Final Fantasy.

all genres draw there inspiration from one source or another, which in turn gets its inspiration from an older game, despite being revolutionary mario was NOT the source of games, heck it wasnt even one of the first games, there were countless consoles before the NES. NES just happened to be the one that we seem to pay attention to the most. In a way you could say that mario was influenced b y games such as Pitfall on the atari 2600. Im not saying that you should not vote for him, I am just saying that having him claim ownage over every other character despite otehr peoples opinions is wrong.
