I made this thread to get an idea of what kind of music people enjoy while playing games. I know that in some emulators and modern day games you can import your own playlist, but I dont want to click on a link and hear 50 cent or Weird Al... lets keep it oldschool to a certain extent.

Now even though the topic of this thread is "Your Favorite Game Music," that doesnt mean you need to post your number one favorite song from a video game of all time. Just post something that you really enjoyed.

If you would like, add a description and why you find it so great.

I am in the midst of making a blog post about the best obscure NES music (in my opinion). I am NOT looking for ideas for that, however, it would be nice to see what other gamers find to be great pieces of music.

I will post one that will definately be in my blog post.

1. Faxanadu- World of Mist= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFcSxw0Wit4 This song has everything that makes music so great in entertainment. SO many great songs in this game captured the environment and gameplay so well. This song (while it may be strange to some) captures the essence of the moment better then anything else on the NES.

Although I have a ton of honorable mentions.

By the way, even though some (or most people) hate Silver Surfer, it has one of the best soundtracks on the NES. <<< That was a just so you know... lol

So what do you all think? Lets try to keep these music samples no later then 5th gen if possible. Thanks all :)

If I had Xbox Live I'd definitely play AFTER BURNER CLIMAX.

It's probably the last "TRUE" AFTER BURNER game that there will be for a long time.

I'm still pissed it wasn't given a standard release, whilst rubbish like RAIDEN IV did.

I like the fact that a couple of people posted some awesome music for games. There have got to be some more of you out there in Legacy Platform land that have a track or two that really sticks out for you, and you would easily be able to identify a game by even if others couldnt. I thought this thread was going to be booming, but I guess people dont care for the hidden gems of video game muic as much as me.... then again, not many people care for hidden gems let alone that....

As much as I love the Dreamcast I've never had the desire or interest in the Shenmue series. The setting and theme just don't seem interesting to me. I may try the series some point in the future, for all I know I may enjoy it.

If I ever find them cheap I'll buy them or if Sega release a HD port soon. Whichever happens first.

I loved the Mega Man 9 soundtrack, definitely some of my favorite songs in the series are in that game, like We're the Robotsand Wily Battle.

Some other tracks that come to mind are Tubba Blubba Battle, Crocodile Cacophony, andDr. Stewart's Theme.

Powerblade NES Sector 2 tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpQ0pqnGMic&feature=relmfu

Not played Powerblade in 18 years but still remember these tunes clear as day.

Deus Ex PC Main menu music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yUvMuple5I

Deus Ex PC Hong kong music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHQZNNajxOk&feature=related

Deus Ex PC Unatco music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_wsxDFRbEk&feature=related

The Deus Ex music is nice and gritty and sets the tone for the game.

Just realised that JC denton looks like the guy in powerblade lol.

That was mainly in the arcades, which were always way ahead of the curve back then, in terms of both graphics and audio. By the early 80s, arcade machines were already using FM-synthesis sound chips, which wouldn't be used in consoles (or non-Japanese computers) until the late 80s (with the Sega Mark III, Famicom Disk System, TurboGrafx-16, and Sega Mega Drive).

Yep. The opening theme to Mega Man 3 is especially awesome. Here's a fan-freaking-tastic metal take on it by one of my favorite obscure bands, Year 200X:

It has many video game musical classics, but my favorites are the Zelda 64 musics. http://www.videogameconnection.com/jukebox/jukebox.htm
