Mine: Contra: Shattered Soldier- I don't see any game being as hard as this one. What's your picks?

There's a trick with Shin Contra (aka Shattered Soldier) you know. The trick is that the game never really changes, and the enemy patterns will always remain the same, so it's a matter of knowing where to stand and shoot. Instead of trying your luck playing by refliexes, try to memorize the game stage by stage and boss by boss, because once you know what to do, you will be able to do it all the time and you won't lose anymore.

I can beat that game without losing a sigle life.

As for my most difficult game, that'd be Gradius III (Arcade).

I haven't played it in YEARS, but I really struggled with battletoads on NES as a kid...

also, Ninja Gaiden 2 on 360 (expert mode) is really tough for me.

ghosts n goblins is the one where you have to do it over again. Yeh thats probably the hardest game I own, I still love it but yeh difficult to say the least you will quite honestly die 400 times just to get to level 3, you will die around die around 500 times at the last level and you have to complete it with a certain weapon...and that certain weapon sucks, if you don't find the weapon and carry it to the end you instantly get sent back to level 4 and have to find the weapon and get to the end again, once you get to the end you will face the last boss and when you win it will tell you that this was a trick devised by Satan and you have the complete the entire game a second time...oh and you still have to keep that certain weapon throughout the entire game this time. They don't make games like that anymore. Lol.

The arcade version of Altered Beast is almost impossible if you're going for a three credit run.

I Wanna Be The Guy!

broken_bass_bin

Not even close to the hardest game ever made. I honestly dont understand how anyone could possibly say its on the same level of difficulty of the majority of games 16 bit and before. If it was that hard I wouldnt have been able to beat it, let alone on the very hard difficulty setting. It's as simple as that. I'm not saying its not a difficult game, its just not on the same level of difficulty as hundreds of other games.

On this subject, I think I wanna be the guy is one of the greatest games of all time and is something everybody should experience.

I honestly couldnt say a game from the last few eras because no matter how annoying a game is because of auto save you can just constantly push forward until u finish even ninja gaiden with some patience was doable megadrive is clearly the key no saving and constanly playing over from the start that plus battletoads lol

I've always had a tough time with Kid Icarus and the Double Dragon series. It was the vertical ascension on Kid Icarus though that always got me.

I don't really find much games to be hard, they are either annoying or not..

Playing an old platformer many years after not playing it, and struggling lots, that can be hard.

Yes, but just beating it once is near impossible.

I was able to get through the first playthrough, at least I was with the edition I played where continues weren't that hard to get (don't know if other editions are the same or not, but I probably wouldn't have gotten far otherwise). The sucky part is the second time through where it forces you to beat the game with a particular weapon. The weapon seldom drops and is a terrible weapon. I couldn't beat the end the second time through with that weapon and didn't feel like doing it all over again :( I'd definitely put Super Ghouls n' Ghosts up there along with Ikaruga, Gradius V, F-Zero GX story mode, but probably the hardest would be some of the old school arcade games like Robotron 2084 and Gun.Smoke, oh and trying to play Gauntlet by yourself was lol

Link to the Past is probably the hardest game I've every played. The enemies do unfair amounts of damage, and you never know what the heck you're supposed to do. Megaman 9 was pretty dang hard, too.

Well, I'm not that well seasoned in the hardcore gaming area. I tend to get so frustrated I end up with controllers burried in walls, and the like, but Astro Boy: Omega factor on GBA. On "easy" it really was quite easy, on "normal" I don't think I ever got to the very end, and on "hard" I was just lost. Was still an awesome game, though.

I see a lot of people saying Megaman and Ninja Gaiden but I never found them hard. Maybe I just have a lot of patience.
