Which N64 games do you think are still playable today? Which are not? Why?

I think Super Mario 64 is still a great game after all these years. The graphics are clean, gameplay is fun and the soundtrack is good.

However I believe Goldeneye 007 is pretty poor nowadays. The graphics and music are fine. But the gameplay is what I find horrible. I just can't play shooters on the N64 anymore thanks to my PS3.

Mario Kart 64, Banjo Kazooie/Tooie. Those are still good. I'd agree with you on 007, its hard to go back playing a FPS with only one analog stick.

I was playing Golden Eye with a few friends like a week ago... it's terrible now.

Games that are still good: Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask, Mario Party (1-3), Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Snap and Conker's Bad Fur Day (That's all I can think of. There are definitely more).

Most of those games are bad now. Even Mario Kart is still playable, but it's terrible compared to the newer ones.

Edit: Banjo Kazooie and Tooie are still AMAZING.

The platformers that were good then are good now. Mario, Banjo, Conker. OoT and Majora's Mask are still good. Mario Kart, Paper Mario.

Goldeneye is a case of the mighty falling. There is nothing fun about it anymore.

A lot fo the platformers are still pretty good. Donkey Kong 64 and Super Mario 64 especilly come to mind.

And the FPS's are probably the ones that have aged the worst.

Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Diddy Kong Racing, Super Mario 64, Super Smash Bros., and Mario Tennis still hold up pretty well in my opinion.

The 64 Zelda games DO NOT hold up good at all. I can't even bring myself to play Ocarina of Time. Super Smash Bros. holds up extremely well.

Zelda, Mario, Banjo Kazooie, Conker etc.

Basically anything by Nintendo or Rare. They hold up surprisingly well. Still completely playable. Unlike Playstation 1 games (let's face it, the ps1 was really pushing the limits of the hardware, and not in a good way)

Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, OoT and Majora's Mask, Mario Kart, DK64, and Diddy Kong Racing all held up great. Pretty much what's been said about FPSes, they just don't feel right compared to the modern ones on consoles.

I didn't have an N64 growing up so I missed out on a lot of classics back then. I bought an N64 recently and tried to get into so some of the classics. I haven't played them all but;

Ocarina of Time and Perfect Dark hasn't aged well at all. The landscape on both games are rather impressive but the framerate on these games are atrocious; especially Pefect Dark. Also, the gameplay in OoT was just tedious and boring. For those wanting to play PD, try the 360 version. For Zelda, play Twilight Princess and Wind Waker.

Forget to mention the ones that hold up. Again, haven't played many but so far I'd say that Sin and Punishment, Super Mario 64, and Star Fox 64 all hold up very well.

Majora's Mask holds up extremely well. Much better, unfortunately, than Ocarina. The greatly improved character draw distance and more detailed textures of the sequel does wonders for the appeal of the game today.

Starfox 64 is beast!!! That game still pwns even to this day. No starfox game has ever outdone it. I think Ocarina of Time still holds up pretty well today. I don't know about Wind Waker, it started out really good like every Zelda game, but it became boring and tedious as I progressed, and well Twilight princess was just graphical update of all the previous zelda games.

I still reallin enjoy playing Mario Kart, super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, Donkey Kong 64 and, of course, Conker's Bad Fur Day. I also really enjoy Mario Golf, as an "I'm bored" kind of game to play. They don't make awesome platformers like they did for the 64.

Same here dude. I hate to say it but I'm starting to think that I don't like the 3D Zelda games. I did kinda enjoy TP simply because it was much shorter than OoT. TP was almost identical to OoT but much better looking and much better music. But even then it got boring after a while.

Obviously. Otherwise there would be little need to address the graphics, since there's no reason to play the game in the first place. My point was that Majora's Mask, in a technological sense, has aged rather gracefully.... where Ocarina really has not.

Zelda today rehashes boss fights and it is very annoying, I want to be surprised like I was when I played Majoras Mask and Phantom Hourglass. Those two games are the best in the series.

I disagree on the Goldeneye 007 bashing. I've got a 360 and a PC, the two leading FPS platforms, and Goldeneye 64's singleplayer component is better than what most of either platform has to offer. The multiplayer is lacking, yea, but that's going to be a given.

Mario 64, SSB, Pokemon Stadium, Mario Party.

Anything else, particularly shooters are pretty poor nowadays.

Blast Corps still great. Goldeneye is definitely very frustrating to go back and play now.

Goldeneye deserves a remake with on-line. It's single player mode was the best. All these years later and I could probably still pick it up and know every little detail about every level. That's disturbing.

And I dunno if Blast Corps ever sold well or not, but it NEEDS a sequel.Of all the maybe 40 or so games I had, It got the most use!

Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and Super Smash Brothers all hold up pretty well today. I'd argue pretty much anything from Rare feels quite dated. Dual analog put the N64 shooters to shame and Rare's collection centric formula for platforms are a thing of the past.

Thinking about it now, Goldeneye's single player was pretty awesome. And the game isn't as ugly as Perfect Dark. If given the opprotunity, I'd play Goldeneye's single player again.
