A weird question but the title is self explanatory enough.

I am still surprised people play World of Warcraft. Though, I am a noob when it comes to MMO’s. I’ve never gotten into any of them.

@speeny: I don't really think it's weird to still play WoW. Especially now, with Vanilla WoW on the way, a lot of old players are expected to jump back in.

Great MP games rarely die especially on PC so I'm not really surprised that people still play Battlefield 2, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, CS 1.6 and Source ect..

Don't really think about it too much.

Because while some games are clearly older and lacking that modern look. The games that stand the test of time either have an addictive form of replay-value with no sequel to succeed it (in what makes it great), or added editions to keep the game relevant.

World of Warcraft is certainly the latter, as it is a commonly updated game.

Not really something I’ve ever thought about to be honest.

Anyway why would people still playing WoW be surprising? Didn’t they release an expansion pack not that long ago?

Crysis series. They were all mediocre shooters with very little to recommend them, yet there are fanboys that still cling to these games as if they were something special. Which they were not.

It's kind of funny just how highly regarded Melee is. I understand the reasoning why people say it's the best in the series, but in practice the differences are pretty negligible.

@henrythefifth: Oh yes. Graphically the games are tour-de-force, but the gameplay is just a crisis (or crysis if you prefer).

Don't think many play them (at least in the past five years). Picking something a small audience brings in conversation isn't the purpose of the thread.

Even when I checked out the original Crysis, it was dead (back in 2013).

While it's fine to just not enjoy turn-base RPG games due to how they're structured.

In Japan they've always just called JRPGs _ RPGs, like it should be. And frankly it's rare I see anyone use "JRPG" anymore.

JRPG is an outdated term formed by closed minded US journalists of an old era. Only English speaking Gamers of the 80's and 90's cling towards "JRPG" because they grew with the flawed labelling. No good reason to keep it alive in 2018. When the difference doesn't exist outside cultural referencing and themes in games. Which expands more than just the RPG genre_

Back onto the real subject. If you don't like turn-base mechanics in RPGs? It would put games like Space Hulk, Xcom, and Divinity in the same section of criticism wouldn't it.

Because mechanically they suffer the same flaw.

Loaded up Bad Company 2 via BC to see if it was as good as I remember...wow, have graphics come a long way since 2007. Anyway, tried to join an online game and there were lots of active players.... surprising.

There was a really serious but small group that enjoyed the MP part of ME3. It always baffled me because it felt like a tacked on, just-to-have-it feature but some people ate it up. More power to them I guess.

@Sevenizz: I don't think it's dated at all... It's a different type of gameplay. Is it any different from TBS vs RTS? Can't say one is objectively superior to the other - they offer different things

Super Mario Brothers 3, Super Mario World, are great games and hold up better as platform games than a lot of what we see today. We have our excellent platform games now such as Sonicmania and Super Meat Boy but to say they are light years better is nonsense.
There is not much better for RTS games than Starcraft Broodwars and it was released in 1998 and is still played competitively in South Korea.
Red Alert 2 is also another RTS that holds up well against the likes of Starcraft 2.
Mortal Kombat 2 is either better or on par with fighters released today. I wouldn't call the excellent Blazblue Continuum Shift or Street Fighter IV light years better either.

There are a lot of examples that counter your statement.

I was with you till this.

Mortal Kombat 9 is the first Mortal Kombat game ever considered for EVO. That should tell you a lot.

It's fine if you simply like Mortal Kombat II though. Not disrespecting your taste and fond memories.

-Team Fortress 2

It's still one of the most active games on Steam and it's been over 10 years since it's launch.

Most of my play with TF2 took place between 08-14 and I'm still amazed it continues to outlive the

majority of the games that came after it. I go back and play it every once in a while for old times sake.

I am really surprised people still play CS 1, even with all these new fps games to play, but I have to admit CS 1 is still really funny.
