Games like Skyrim, Dark Souls, Dragon's Dogma, Baldur's Gate, Diablo, etc.

I know there's Diablo on the PS1, but how about other games?

Furthermore, nothing turn-based, if possible.

Doesn't have to be "go anywhere, do anything", just can't be turn-based, and must be based in the West, and can't have JRPG tropes, like "anime" graphics. (Yeah I know that sounds pretty bad, but I honestly don't know how else to describe it.)

If nothing comes to mind, thats fine, I'm just trying to make a list of WRPG's for the PS1 and PS2.

Last rule: No guns if possible, medieval firearms like bows and magic are cool, as long as there is some semblance of melee combat involved in the game.

Not sure in what category "Blaze and Blade" fits, but to me it's a very western game and thanks to co-op I had a lot of fun playing it with others.

If your looking for RPGs from that era, you may as well try some PC games. You should be able to run anything that old on any PC.

Stuff like Fallout 2 and Planescape Torment

I'm making this because I only just recently replaced my PS3, and my computer, haven't had a PS3 or PC in a LOOOONG time (due to lack of income, not gonna get into specifics), naturally, some of the best Western RPG's were on next-gen consoles, like Skyrim and Dragon's Dogma (currently my favorite WRPG).

To my surprise, there were hardly any WRPG's on the PS2, BUT, I did come up with a small list, and now, just in case someone (for any reason) only has a PS1, then this list will brighten them up.

Sorry, the models are just too cartoony.

When I say "western RPG", I mean, trying to have at least some semblance of realism, ESPECIALLY in the graphics.

Something like "Crusaders of Might & Magic" in terms of the graphics department. Appreciate the suggestion though.

@tiggytog: Playstation 2 had- Kingsfield IV, Champions of Norrath, Champions: Return to Arms, and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance

just to name a few.

PS2 had way more of the RPGs you are looking for, they just didn't sell well so don't have much hype behind them.

@RSM-HQ: I know about all them.

Dark Alliance 1 & 2, Summoner 1 & 2, Champions of Norrath 1 & 2, and King's Field IV, for PS2 anyway.

But that's pretty much it, those are all I could find that fit my criteria.

@tiggytog: Well I guess I'll have to add a few more then-

Summoner, Summoner 2, Darkstone, Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land (maybe not the last one due to TB)

Not to come across as pretentious. But if you wasn't so picky with artstyles, I would probably recommend the .hack series. It's an addictive dungeon crawler franchise with a ton of gaming lore. Or even the first two Monster Hunter games.

It is worth noting the combat system in Dark Souls is very similar to MH, but MH has questionably got far more depth. . . Well, maybe not in the PS2 games. .

Was about to suggest this. It's going to be hard to find Western Action RPGs on PS1. That era most games in the West for that category were on PC.

@csward: Very true, even Map Editor Mods on Warcraft III created some of the best Dungeon Crawler experiences of the time.

I'd recommend even if OP only has an older P.C. just to get Oblivion with all the recommended Mods, that's a pretty fun experience.

Dude my computer can barely play SW: JKA or KOTOR.

I don't have money to waste on games at all, I stick with what I was given as a teenager till I get a better job.

@tiggytog: That's fine dood. Hence why we're doing our best remembering RPGs from Playstation and Playstation 2.

Though I'd say if it can run those LucasArt games, you still have a few options. Have you ever considered Dungeon Keeper? I know it's not an RPG. But I think its theme and setting might be just what you are after. Otherwise try looking into the Playstation games mentioned in #12.

Have fun_

I'm trying to think back to playing western rpgs on the PS1 and realise that I did not play any. That was the peak of the jrpg (including the PS2 era), and if you wanted top wrpgs, you would have to go to the PC.

Beyond the Beyond. Top down view looks a bit cartoonish but combat looked good. Good game and long.
