What was so bad about the naval combat?

Starcraft didn't have naval combat. It was a point of contention during the lengthy SC beta in that some Warcraft II players felt naval combat was somehow missing or a step backwards from the air/naval/ground battle planes of Warcraft II. I even think naval units may have been removed inbetween the first, unreleased, pre-alpha version of SC and the second, revamped version we are all familiar with.

I think thats really what I loved about SC, it doesnt have all the extra units that you dont really need, since most units could attack specific targets. Some were limited to attacking air units and others can only attack ground enemies. But the game as a whole was simple to understand and there wasnt so much thrown into it like age advancing and tonnes of upgrade items, they were just limited to what was necessary for your military units. Plus each race had its own hero and ultimate unit (Terran Battlecruiser, Protoss Carrier and Zerg Ultralisk).
