i've been gaming my whole life, but i just turned 35 and i feel like i'm getting too old for this stuff.   Especially when i go on xbox live i dont want to talk to a bunch of little kids i have nothing in common with except a silly game.  IT's just kind of hard to give up games because this is what i've always done for entertainment. I just am not sure how i'm going to keep doing this though?  Am I going to be some 90 year old grandpa on live playing video games?  It just seems weird to me.   Should i give up games and find something else to do or say who gives a **** and just be an old guy who likes games?  I started really young with games.  I know its different now.   I know other gamers my age but there aren't that many.  Most are in my profession and in IT and stuff.

Well an avarage gamer is said to be at the age of 30+.

in my opinion i dont think there is an age! gaming is for everyone to enjoy.

You wont be talking to a bunch of kids for long if they bring 18+ games onto the shelves.

I dont think you need to stop it if you enjoy doing it. As a matter of fact my dad is 50 and he still plays NHL on the xbox360.

I second that. I think Chess can be considering gaming as well... since they are board games. My grandpa is nearly 70 years old, but plays Chess to keep his mind sharp... it looks like it works. He plays either chess or poker online... would you consider those to be games as well?

There really is no age where you should just drop it. If you feel like you have hit that age then I guess yo can move on.

You should continue to play video games for as long as you gain some sense of satisfaction, entertainment or enjoyment from them. Nobody considers giving up other forms of entertainment due to their age so don't feel like you can be too old to enjoy being a gamer. Even if you see much younger gamers than you online there is no reason to feel alienated, you do have something in common with them - video games! In a way you are being agist against yourself if you begin to think that you can be too old for gaming or anything else for that matter. Also just to reiterate a previous point, the average gamer is over 30 and has been playing for over 10 years if I recall correctly.

so long as you enjoy it, there is no reason to stop.

however, you do seem to feel a little like you may need a break. Nothing wrong with experimenting with other hobbies so long as you have the time/resources/inclination. You could buy a boat, learn horse dressage, do glassworking or metalurgy, do some amateur law enforcement, not to mention the old standbys of cars, women and drink.. its up to you.

your video games will always be waiting for you if you decide to boot them back up.

Most of games in today's market are rated M. Those kids shouldn't be playing those games and not you. Rarely there's a suitable content in games for teens. I find some Teen rated games to be offensives even to that age group.

Are you just down because you keep running into groups of young kids on live? and I don't mean young like young adult I am talking pre-pubescent here because this is what happens to me on public Gears 2 :| an 18 cert game and I am continuously getting grouped off with kids far too young to even own the game (I really hope they are anyway, because if not they have severe hormone in-balances going on their voices and behaviour). I should take my own advice here but if that is the problem try to add people you meet online that you enjoy gaming with ;) and don't let yourself feel bad about your hobby.

I'm 39 and still play video games.  Video games may have started out as a kiddy thing, but that is not the case anymore.  Video games are now for all ages.  Personally, I like being able to relate to people a lot younger than I am.  It's fun.

I actually read this recently...there are 120million people in america that play video games. The avarage age is 28. And you cant be too old for games. The only reason to stop is not enjoying games anymore.

No age is too young or old to play games. (unless of course it's physically impossible)

Aslong as you enjoy it why stop?

No age limit but it also depends on the people around you.

I'm only 22 but some of my relatives, friends, and other people I know would say this to me, "Your already an adult and you still play videogames?". Some of my friends already quit gaming during the mid-PS2 era (they were about 16-18 at that time) because they think they are too old for it.

Every once in awhile I ask myself this same question especially now that I'm in the 30+ age group. Thankfully I still enjoy videogames and I honestly cant see a time when I dont enjoy them. However I can see the OP's point about xbox live which is why my mike is off 99% of the time.

In truth it's not the online community that frustrates me, its the people in real life that make me wonder if I'm getting too old for this hobby. By that I mean it's become increasingly hard to find like minded people with which to talk about games or involve in playing games online. None of my friends game anymore and the few co workers I know that still game are so casual that I can barely stand to discuss gaming with them. Oh well. Long Live the Old Gamer.

I'm not sure how I feel about it anymore. My uncle is in his 60s and retired, and he still plays. So I don't have a problem with people playing at whatever age, and I think that people who criticize don't quite get it. Having said that, I do feel sometimes like I'm too old to be messing around with it the way I do, putting as much time into it as I do. I look around at the things other people my age are doing, like building their families, getting an extra job, or going back for more schooling, and thinking, "I should probably be doing that, not sitting on my ass playing this game." The Wii has made me feel too old sometimes too. It still feels more like a toy to me than an entertainment system. Wii has no age limit of course since people in nursing homes play it, but I'm not always eager to admit to people my age that I have a Wii. I imagine I will keep playing until I can't play anymore though, and will probably pass it on to my kids as well (after they finish their homework and clean their room, of course :D )

Honestly, I am going to game until it no longer excites me. If it happens that I am 80 and I die with a controller in my hands (if thats how games are controlled by then) so be it.

I agree with everyone else. The average gamer is supposed to be around your age from what Ive read so youre not really that old. Even if youre not hearing them on Xbox live or whatever there are plenty out there. I think this trend will continue also with systems like Wii coming out and games getting more advanced and growing in audience.

When you die is when you should stop gaming, i mean i see 60 year olds play the wii, and not just on the commercials.
