I got to thinking the other day: I notice that there are some genre's I simply can't get into, regardless of how much critic-acclaim the game receives.
1. 3rd person action/adventures
2. RPGs
3. Arcade Racers (think Burnout: Paradise)
This topic is locked from further discussion.
That's it, really. Everything I'm fine with, and even then, I will try some of these out.
Western RPG's. They just don't appeal to me at all.Devil_LadyNo! Morrowind shall rise and strike! Hmm. I don't think I saw someone that didn't like WRPGs at all...
1. Strategy RPGs or real-time strategy games (like Disagea, Civilization Revolution, Starcraft, Fire Emblem... The Sims, you name it)
2. Shooters. While I have played a couple of third-person shooters in my life (auto-aiming is preferred and enjoyed) I just don't like them, especially first-person shooters. Moving the analog stick (or even a mouse) around doesn't appeal to me much.
I'm not much of a gamer anyway but those two are ones that are relatively popular and have a lot of good games in their respective genre which I just can't seem to get into.
Honestly I dont have a dislike for any kind of games, but games that have multi-path bug me and poorly lighted levels, so really Condemned 2.
Mostly real life sports sims and racing, like say Madden and Gran Turismo. I love me some NBA Jam and Burnout and such. And platformers aggravate the **** out of me. Most recent offender = Little Big Planet.
I've been playing games for 10-15 yrs now (more so the last 10 yrs than the first 5)...I've had an open mind to all games that have a reputation for being elite in their genre. In fact I used to purchase games based on their reputation alone regardless of their genre.
If anybody has an open mind, it's me. Over time though, I've learned that some genre's simply don't fit my appetite regardless of their quality.
Chrono Trigger is a good specific example. I played it and beat it last year -- after the first few hours the game felt more like a chore than something I was having fun with. That goes for another critically acclaimed game recently: Batman: AA.
I tell people that game is overrated and they ask me where I'm getting my drugs.
all strategy games
Japanese games full of squeeky wide eyed kids trying to save the world
fighting games
top down games
Rhythm games
Card battle games
99% of sports games
lol
and anything that requires waving my arms around like crazywhilst stood up staring at the T.V !
Simulation Racers-IMO the Most boring gaming Genre.
FPS-It's not so much that I don't like them it's just I don't care about them.
Turn Based RPG's-It's boring to just stand there and select commands for menus.
Sports games-I'm not much of a sports person IRL so I'm not going to play the video games.
I have genres where I dislike more games than usual, but there is not a single genre that I hate as a whole. Like most fighting games in the fighting genre are fundamentally flawed, however I think games like Tatsunoko vs Capcom go beyond their genre's normal stigmas.
I just cannot simply hate an entire genre, they all have their advantages.
Oh man MMOs consumed my life, but aren't that good of games. If I could an offline virtual dressup RPG simulator type deal like any of the big MMOs I'd be happy with that.Arcade racers, MMOs and simulators.

The MMOs aren't very good games all in all. Bad graphics (so everybody can play it), not very good gameplay (sometimes there's lag or buggy mobs) and weak, over-the-top story. But they are very addictive after all, online game's charming, yes. :) And that's why I hate this genre - all my friends are playing WoW and I don't have a buddy to roll :(Arcade racers, MMOs and simulators.

Damn, that means you pretty much play fighting games, and turn based RPGs or really old stuff. I kinda feel sorry for you.
- Flight Simulators (if it was a Dragon it'd be different :p)
- Most real-life-esque FPS/TPS (I prefer fantasy or sci-fi or horror fantasy Shooters, not real life)
- Racing Simulation or Arcade Racers (Kart Racing is my only racing)
- Games that are realistic (Puts me off incredibly)
- Puzzle games
- Sports Games (with the exception of UFC and Wrestling)
- Construction/City Building Games (fine in an RTS or TBS game like Civilization or Romance of the Three Kingdoms, because it's not quite as such)
- Visual Novels
That's it, really. Everything I'm fine with, and even then, I will try some of these out.

I always disliked RTS games. I just don't enjoy them. Not a fan of Sports and Racing games, but I'll play them if I'm with friends.
I also dislike when games try to be too realistic. Turns me off a little.
Hmm, probably racers and puzzle games. Don't like RTS either.
Not a fan of music games like Guitar Hero at all.
1. JRPG's : whiny, effeminate, suicidal, 2D child-characters; ridiculous, nonsensical scifi/fantasy settings; uber-cheesy, over-convoluted "story lines":
2. Survival Horror/dark FPS's : dreary repetitive level design; slow game play; ...and to be honest, they scare the crap out of me!!
3. Rhythm Games :Guitar Hero's, Dance Dance Rev,etc. Timed button mashing is still button mashing.
4. World-Building or Sim type games : Why ... just why??
5. Arcade Racers : Driving is a skill, enough said!!
Sports games. I can't say I "can't stand" them, I just don't have any interest in playing them.
Hunting games, those I can't stand.
EDIT: Oh, Wrestling games just get a big "WTF" from me. I know they're just a sub-genre of fighting games but I don't understand them in any way.

Diablo-B
There's still action/adventure, adventure, platformers, rail shooters, brawlers, beat-'em-ups etc.
:P
1. RTSes. I was never meant to be a commander. :(
2. Stealth games. I can not get through a single level of Splinter Cell without saving after every little action I do. I'm just as scared as my targets.
3. Simulators. Not only do I suck at commanding armies, I can't run a theme park either.
JRPG's
every Flight Sim after X-Wing Alliance (if that series can even be considered a flight sim)
Old-style Stealth Games [I say "old style" because as the genre morphs (looking at you splinter Cell Conviction) I'm warming up to it, bit by bit]
This.Mostly real life sports sims and racing, like say Madden and Gran Turismo. I love me some NBA Jam and Burnout and such.

I honestly can't think of any particular genre. If a game is good enough, I'll pretty much play anything.
I don't really follow sports games much, although I have played and enjoyed various golfing, football, skating, skiing and basketball games. Oh, and boxing games... So maybe that nixes that. :P
