Klonoa's and the present Sonic the hedgehog's* can impress me for years *= I won't even forget how amazing Sonic can be back in 1998-2004

I liked the first Max Payne. I also liked Manhunt. And I just had a third one but my mind went blank. Wait...it came back lol. The Warriors. (I liked the movie so I knew what to expect but I like how they stuck to it with the game).

Chrono Trigger will always be the top dog in my wheel house. The story was awesome and still holds up to this day. Earthbound is a really really close second. It was so quirky and enjoyable.

Deadly Premonition is my number one for pure story. But, i am a fanatic when it comes to Twin Peaks (TV series by David Lynch), so anything resembling it is bound to be put on a pedestal.

I am also extremely fond of the very first Bioshock.

9 hours 9 persons 9 doors. It has everything: humor, suspense, mystery, love, blended perfectly with an awesome plot that really makes you think. Virtues last reward, the sequel, wasn't as good in my opinion. It certainly had enough mytery and suspense, but that emotional part I just didn't feel with the characters (except one character, and you would know who if you played the game).

GTA San Andreas, probably. I like all the GTA's stories, but SA definitely branched out a lot and had a lot of unexpected and surprising twists and turns. The mass effect series was really good too

In this generation, I'd have to say my hands-down favorite story has been that of the Mass Effect series. Runners-up would have to be Modern Warfare 3 and the stories of Splinter Cell: Conviction and Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

The Last of Us tells an uncompromising story which I appreciate and To the Moon has a very good story. I really got into the whole hidden story of Dark Souls which on the face of has almost no story at all but if you go looking and talking to people then its actually pretty epic.

Some standouts:

- GTA IV

-GTA: Vice City

-KOTOR

-Chrono Cross

-Persona 4

-Halo 1-3 (though overly complex and confusing at times)

In order (I think)

  1. Metal Gear Solid series
  2. Red Dead Redemption
  3. Sleeping Dogs
  4. Tales of Symphonia (I get that it probably copies some other games though)
  5. Infamous (maybe?  Or maybe Resident Evil 4)

Something like that I guess.  I feel like I am missing some.  Of course I would put Majora's Mask up there, but its kinda good in a different way.

Planescape Torment

The Metal Gear Solid series

The Witcher

Final Fantasy X

Nier - you have to play it more than once though to get the full story

I absolutely loved CJ's character development in that game, they really nailed the whole rags to riches aspect with him. Anyway Planescape Torment gets my vote, doubt I need to explain why at this point.

Bioshock series (even 2 offered some pretty cool insight into the world of Rapture)

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

Uncharted 2 (ok, it's not a great story, but I do enjoy a summer blockbuster and playing a game that's basically a summer blockbuster is pretty cool)

I liked the stories  in Fallout: New Vegas, plural. The main arc wasn't that impressive, but there were some very interesting side-quests.

My favorite stories, however, would be:

-> The Witcher series

-> Planescape: Torment

Arkham Asylum and Arkham City had some awesome plots. GTA San Andreas was good too. GTA 4 was good but too dark and sad and tragic. The walking dead was pretty cool, but dark and sad too.

Crono Trigger and FF3(SNES) are my all-time faves.

I like the path that God of War went overall, though I don't care for Kratos as a character.

The Last of Us is a pretty engaging and interesting work of art, same with Heavy Rain.

Games or game series that had especially memorable stories for me were:

-MGS series

-Tales of Symphonia

-FF10

-Chrono Trigger

I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones that I could come up with right now. :P

Honestly Max Payne 3's story was generic as hell. It had a great script, and Max is a good character, but plots like that have been done in action movies ad nauseam.

Red Dead Redemption. One of the few game stories that is actually great by non-video-game standards. The dialogue's great too, and it helps that I love westerns.

Sucker for nostalgia, so I guess I'll say Chrono Trigger and FFIX.  It's been a while since I've had a game move me emotionally in any way.
