So since we now have these new forums to play around with I figure I would start things off asking what your favorite FPS titles are.

For those who remember it mine would have to be Planetside, and MMOFPS which was like taking the first halo and putting 300-400+ people fighting over a massive land mass for base control.

Whats yours?

Hmm.... PC Quake III - The First Online FPS I ever played. Damn this game was good and fun. PS2 Time Splitters III Medal of Honor(All PS2 games) Black Killzone I played these games for hours. PS3(Still support both) Killzone 2 - Insane. Explosive. Intense. Underplayed. Killzone 3 - Underplayed. Underrated.

As an avid FPS player, I do enjoy a lot of titles, but I'll boil them down:

SP:

Doom/Ultimate Doom + Doom 2

Halo: Combat Evolved/Combat Evolved Anniversary

Resistance: Fall of Man

MP:

Quake 3 Arena

Halo 2

Shadowrun (PC/360)

Honorable mentions:

Medal of Honor (PSOne)

Medal of Honor: Frontline

Marathon 2: Durandal

Duke Nukem 3D

Call of Duty 4

Anyone play Tribes?

That was kind of like Planetside I think.

I remember spending hours on that game. I saw the community die though, just wasn't fun anymore once no one was playing it.

Definitely loved both Descent I and II. I never played III. Grew up on these games.

Too many to mention, but a few of my favorites are...

  • Doom Series
  • Quake Series
  • Heretic
  • Left 4 Dead 2
  • Call of Duty Series (especially COD4)
  • Medal of Honor Series (Airborne is the best IMO)
  • Halo Series (I like Halo 3 the most)
  • Condemned: Criminal Origins
  • Goldeneye 007
  • FEAR

..and dozens of others I've forgotten. This is my favorite genre by far!

There's alot of great shooters out there. Battlefield 3 AND Modern Warfare 3 are both epic.

However.

COD 4 is the one that we still get choked up about everytime we think of Gaz.

Wait are we rating just based on the quality of the NAME or the game itself?

Either way, Killzone.

Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect FTW!

Also 007 Goldeneye and Nightfire are pretty good.

As for multiplayer, Cod4's got that wrapped up

It's my favourite genre, so I have a lot of favourites, but these are the most important ones:

Arma series (especially Arma 2: Combined Operations), STALKER series, FEAR 1 and 2, Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason, BioShock 2, Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield/Athena Sword, Crysis 1 + Warhead, and, if it counts as an FPS (it's really more of an adventure game), Metroid Prime Trilogy.

First off I have to say I'm a PC only gamer. My favourites are based on what had a decent Single Player mode because up until last year I had no access to broadband and to be honest I'm somewhat anti-social so I have little interest in dealing with other gamers. In no particular order these are my fav's. FarCry, absolutely adored this game and the first time the Crygens scared the bejeezus out of me, FarCry 2 much, much less so and I found the added level of difficulty of the nanosuit in Crysis distracting. Soldier of Fortune 1&2, Great fun but someone should be shot for Payback (No lean? Seriously?). Alpha Prime, Budget game but truly excellent. Halo, Not much needs to be said about this classic. Halo 2 had a ridiculously short Single Player mode and was less fun somehow. Half Life, My first was Blue-Shift but I eventually played them all and what's not to love? F.E.A.R. 1,2&3, Damn that girl creeped me out. Postal 1&2, There really should be more tongue-in-cheek games like this. What's not to love about using a cat as a silencer? Unreal 1&2, but I had no interest in Tournament play. Return to Castle Wolfenstein, this was my first FPS ever and it got me hooked in. Hitman, loved them all to varying degrees.Max Payne, Enjoyed the FPS aspect but some of it was just too weird. Will Rock, No thought required just kill and kill as fast as you can. If you are into FPSs you would recognise most of these. I have absolutely no interest in controlling a squad like many of the current crop of FPSs. I hated Doom as the very concept of a future full of amazing technology but no lighting and needing to use a mod just for a flashlight seemed bloody moronic to me. I came to gaming a bit too late for Duke Nukem. If anyone has any suggestions based on the style of games listed I'm more than willing to give some more a go.

Perfect Dark- N64 or Timesplitters 3.

Modern FPS games don't have enough local multiplayer friendly customization options.

I loveBattlefield 2 & crysis warhead.

COD & Medal of Honour are my favorites too, but have finished crysis warhead more times than I have finished the rest of them combined ;).

Singleplayer: Crysis 2

Multiplayer: Halo 3

Story: Half-Life 2

Co-op: Gears of War 2 (technically a third-person shooter, but the Gears series is still comparable to most FPS games)

Some of my all-time favourite FPS games would have to include these:

- Deus Ex - technically an RPG/FPS hybrid, but all the better for that
- Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 - such great gameplay and choice throughout
- Half-Life 2 and the rest of the series - great gameplay and storytelling
- No One Lives Forever 1 & 2 - great tongue-in-cheek spy spoofs
- Return To Castle Wolfenstein - great update to the franchise at time of release
- Far Cry - I still prefer this game over Crysis
- Unreal Gold - a solid shooter from start to finish
- Clive Barker's Undying - doesn't get enough love
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - great atmospheric game
- Bioshock - spiritual successor of System Shock 2
- F.E.A.R. - great aatmosphere and gameplay
- Prey - much better than expected with innovative ideas
- Soldier Of Fortune 1 & 2 - Raven's GHOUL system was great for gore
- Aliens v Predator 2 - very atmospheric
- Red Faction - good fun back in the day
- Painkiller Black - straightforward frag-festing
- Outlaws - often overlooked Western themed shooter from Lucasarts
- Hexen (using an engine mod) - great fantasy shooter/slasher
- DOOM (using an engine mod) - the grandaddy of the genre
- Command & Conquer: Renegade - for all its flaws, a fun and solid shooter

For Tactical Shooters...

- Ghost Recon (original) + expansions - still great today
- Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield + expansion - one of the best ever made
- Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear + expansions - tied with Raven Shield imo
- SWAT 4 + expansion - great atmosphere and challenge
- Brothers In Arms series - good gameplay mechanics and tactics

For Multiplayer/Co-Op...

- Borderlands - just an absolute frag-filled blast
- Call Of Duty: United Offensive - played solidly for two years
- Unreal Tournament - frenetic fast-paced mayhem
- Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory - great strategic campaign mode

For First Person Stealth:

- Thief series - just innovative gaming excellence.

This list is full of truth. Especially the bit about Far Cry being better than Crysis. I agree with that assesment. Crysis was toned down in terms of freedom.
