Out of the 60 months i've played it....
$900 on monthly fees
Around $500 on character transfers/race changes.
Sigh....i want to cry right now.
the question should be,how much is too much?one of my older brothers has played the game for 5 years.I just dont get it.I was into the whole mmo thing when final fantasy 11 came out but seriously how much grinding can one submit himself too?I feel like i should be getting paid to play most mmos' and not the other way around.
The way I see it, if you're happy with what you're paying for, and you can afford it, there is no "too much" mark. Once you get to the point where you can't afford food or clothes but instead spend money on WoW, THEN you're paying too much.the question should be,how much is too much?one of my older brothers has played the game for 5 years.I just dont get it.I was into the whole mmo thing when final fantasy 11 came out but seriously how much grinding can one submit himself too?I feel like i should be getting paid to play most mmos' and not the other way around.

Just about $600. I stopped playing about 4 months ago, but I'll definitely pick up Cataclysm, just to see the redesigned Azeroth zones and new quests. But my anticipation level for SWTOR is way higher. I love Bioware, I love Star Wars, and I love MMO's, so SWTOR will probably turn me into a hermit.
I think ive been playing for 8 or 9 months so 9 times the monthly fee and thats how much. Its alot of money but still i prefer paying for WoW, the monthly fee is alot cheaper than buying a new game each month and quite frankly I had more fun in WoW than in the multitude of 6h games that have now become a standard. I actually bought WoW as a result of Mirrors Edge and FEAR 2, games that cost alot and that lasted together ALMOST 10 hours.
All told I estimate I spent about $230 or so on the game. I played classic for about 5 months and I started playing again for a few months surrounding the release of WotLK. I got bored again at around level 74 and quit.
I'm actually not so sure if it was boredom or if it was that I was kind of disgusted by how they had put so much grind in the game beyond just leveling up and doing "dungeons". The whole concept of "daily" quests and making doing those over and over again the only way to access certain things kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I know how MMORPGs operate, but do they really have to be so shameless about it?
I find it funny how all these people say WoW is terrible, yet haven't paid a cent, or in other words, haven't played the game. Even if you tried it at a friends house, an hour or two isn't going to give you an impression of everything WoW has to offer. Hell, I've easily clocked in upwards of 150 days game time into WoW since its release & I haven't seen everything it has to offer.
It's unbelievably big. I only clocked 11 days, and even that was enough to kind of give you a taste of just how many things there are to do and see. Just *really* wasn't my kind of game.I find it funny how all these people say WoW is terrible, yet haven't paid a cent, or in other words, haven't played the game.
