I usually just play on the normal or default difficulty because it feels like the way the game was meant to be played. Not too easy and not too hard but just right. There was a point where I wanted to beat all of the games I bought on the hardest difficulty but it was no fun.

I almost always do easy or medium, depending on the game. I don't like getting frustrated.

No. I tend to hate the hard difficuty setting because it's unfairly difficult.

Instead of improving the AI for harder difficulties, games tend to just give your enemies super human abilities, making it an exercise in frustration rather than skill

I usually play on normal unless they have difficulties such as easy, normal, hard, very hard or if there is an unlockable harder difficulty. Then I play on hard. After I beat the game though if I enjoyed it Ill play on the hardest

Why would I do such a thing? Typically, games are designed for their medium difficulty setting, and tweaked to be harder or easier from that. I prefer to have, at least the first time through, the game the designers intended me to play.

I usually play on the hardest difficulty because it extends the life of the game and I dont end up beating a $60 game in 6 hours.

Oh, if only I had more games I could beat in six hours. If I could get all the emotional punch that Lost Odyssey promises, for instance, in six hours, I'd totally pay sixty dollars for it, instead of avoiding purchasing it at twenty five.

Only when I've exhausted all other single-player replay value, and in Guitar Hero.

Depends. If it's a game I know I'm familar with, I'll usually start on hard (I start most Mario Kart games these days on 150cc).

i usually play games on medium or normal difficulties and if they are really good i will sometimes play on hard or extreme difficulties but the game has to be really good becuase higher difficulties usually just result in rubberband ai and stronger enemies rather than smarter enemies

what a bunch of panzies in this thread. I usually start out on normal difficulty when I first get a game so I get a feel for it. But after beating it once (if it's a game that's worth replaying) I like to go back and tackle it on the hardest difficulty setting. beating a challenging game is soooo much more rewarding than beating an easy one. It's the only way a true man plays video games

If it's an FPS then yeah. I usually play RPG's in normal or easy difficulty so I can get through the story.

I start on easy or medium and progress up through the difficulty levels. At a certain point it becomes frustrating, but the win is that much better then.

I only ramp up the difficulty on consequent play throughs. I'm more about fun than frustration.

not on the first playthrough... i like to finish the game, then on the second playthrough i *might* crank up the diffculty, but only if the first playthrough didn't make me want to rip out my hair.... the game not sucking also helps in my decision to up the difficulty...

It depends on what game we are talking about. But I tend to complete it on the default difficutly which is usually normal and then complete it a second time on hardest mode.

Depends on the game. If it's a sequel to a game i've played then i'll, usually, play on the most difficult mode available. If it's a series i'm new too i put it on the normal difficulty setting.

I will always try the hardest difficulty but if its to hard then i will lower it (e.g. cod on veteran). But some games feel more fun when on the hardest (e.g. resistance 2 on superhuman).

At some point I found medium too easy and started games on hard, but I found myself often getting stuck in the last level or at the last boss, requiring me to restart the entire game on medium to ever finish it.

And so I went back to medium difficulty.

I usually play a game on hard mode at least once, but depending on the game,if I feel like playing it again,I'll play on the normal difficulty,or if the game is more enjoyable on hard mode,I'll stick with hard mode.

I usually play on medium on my first playthrough and hard on my second. With the exception of inFamous where my first playthrough is on hard. (The game told me to.)

Well I think to have the challenge of getting my ass handed to me by the cruel and harsh maiden named AI. I do however remember the first time I played Halo 3 and I tried hard mode but killed everything without even trying (I think my Grenades are homing...) so I had to go up to Legendary mode, even though I still screwed around it was a bit harder. But yeah more people should start playing on harder difficulties for kicks, because you can never get better if your ass isn't handed to you first.

I usually start the game on default or normal difficulty, complete it and then decide if I want to play it again on the hardest settings. Each game is different though, so the difference between easy and hard on some games is far greater than on others. For instance the difference between easy and veteran on COD4 is pretty big, whereas the difference between easy and hard on BFBC isn't very much (all modes are easy!)

If beating the game on the hardest difficulty unlocks something I can't get with cheats, then I'll give it a shot.

I used to always play games on easy or normal but lately I play on whatever the hardest available difficulty is. I find most games these days too easy on normal/default difficulty so I tend to go for hard/expert etc.

I only play on hard if the game actually makes it meaningful. Most games on hard are just the normal versions but allow you to take less hits and enemies just take more. What's the point in that? If enemies used better tactics (Halo) or some other unique trick to make the game harder (Shadow of the Colossus), and I really enjoy the game, sure, I'll replay it again on a harder difficulty. But if it's just, "you die faster," then sucks to that. It's not like it's something I'd go brag to friends about.

I'm sort of the same, my first play through is always on default settings difficulty wise. After that if I enjoyed it then I will crank it up and play again. Games that spring to mind are Lost Planet and DMC3, went for the hardest of hard difficulties on those.

I just do normal difficulty to start off with. If it's too easy I'll put it harder if I can or replay the game at the harder level.

i also like playing games on harder difficulties if its for character building like the force unleashed where you would beat the game on each difficulty while using your same character making him stronger on every playthrough or mass effect where you can continue a new game with the same character
