So, while playing Halo 4 tonight, it really struck me how much my K/D has changed from previous games. I'm barely scraping by with a 1.05 K/D, when in Halo 3 and Reach I had an average of 1.6 or so. Call of Duty was too easy for me to care.

Do any of you care about K/D ratios? And does it really matter to you?

I don't really care on the grand scheme of things, but I do care per match. If I'm playing TDM then I obviously like to have a positive K/D ratio, but if I'm playing objective based games then it doesn't matter. But then again the lowest K/D I ever had was about 1.01 in MGO, so I can't really say, maybe if I was in the negative with some games then it might bother me.

As long as I'm above 1.0, I am content.

In most games I have a 0/0 so I do not care.

I personally like to have it above a 1.0. If it's TDM, then I care. It means that you can play. If it's an objective map, then it doesn't matter one bit. I'd rather have a person on my team with 0 kills and 100 deaths if it meant they went for the objectives.

I like to try and break even at 1.0 but if I don't then I don't really care, my main focus is on having fun not some statistic. As has already been stated if playing an objective mode then K/D ratio is ultimately rendered irrelevant anyway, if I only played TDM and Free for all modes then I would care more I guess.

I'd like to say it doesn't matter to me, but if I dip below 1.0 I'll feel bad about it. It also makes it harder to get back into fps games I havn't played in a while, because I'll get my a** handed to me and my KD will go down the sh*tter indifferent.gif :P

It honestly doesn't bother me at all. I generally suck at FPS games online (doesn't stop me from playing them though) so my K/D ratio is usually below 1 (around the 0.7-0.8 range usually). I tend to only play objective-based modes though.

In arena-style shooters like COD: Yes, as it is the only relevant stat there. In objective-based shooters like Battlefield: No, as it doesn't matter. SPM is the relevant stat here. BTW, why do people think that K/D 1.0 is bad? It's the average. Slightly above average actually since suicides and accidents do happen.

Unfortunately yes, I really wish I didn't though. When I play an online game and get killed it bothers me because it's going to lower my stats. Stupid, I know, but there's nothing I can do about it. That's why I love when games have no stats and nothing is put on record, so you just play for fun.

No not really. While I do try to play well and get better it's not really something I worry much about. I'm usually in the range of 0.8 to 1.0 and that's fine by me.

Very much so. If my K/D ratio is less than 1.5, then I am doing something wrong. I dislike camping and prefer being in the thick of the action, so it can be a challenge to keep it up in that area. Very easy to do in COD but difficult at times in BF games, especially when not in a vehicle.

I try not to a whole lot, but at one point I really did. Either way, I usually don't stick around in matches where I'm continuously getting my ass handed to me while the other team has all the momentum. If I'm not getting points and am just dying shortly after I spawn, I simply leave. That's one reason I've had pretty high K/D ratios in some games, that and beating up on less-skilled players for several matches by staying in the same lobby. I've now for the most part avoided playing online shooters simply because of how frustrating and repetitive they get for me. When it gets to the point where it's only fun if I'm doing good, it's probably time to stop playing, especially when I'm not doing good as often. I am actually playing Bioshock 2's multiplayer right now because I'm going for all the trophies. It's been pretty fun, though of course a lot of frustrating moments too. It's reminded me of both why I was heavy into online shooters, and why I stopped. As far as K/D goes, I didn't care at first, but once I started doing better I noticed it got higher and it at like 1.4-1.5 now, but I don't even care that much because I'm going after points so I can get this over with.

Back when I used to play multiplayer I couldn't help but care. I usually got annoyed during COD if my K/D ratio dropped because I knew I was being robbed by a load of cheats.

Ugh this is me at the moment. With Battlefield I didn't really care, objective based modes are a killer for your k/d besides I had a pretty high SPM so I knew I was contributing to the team effort. Halo, I feel much the same way, I love King of the Hill and that kills your k/d, however if I play Slayer then I am focused on getting more kills than deaths because obviously that is how a team wins the game. On CoD I am obsessed, and I don't think it is healthy. When I first started playing my k/d was about 0.9ish, then I started to get better, original Bops got to a 2.0, new Bops I am about 1.65 at the moment. When I am playing well I love it, however I CANNOT stand going negative. I know that it is completely irrational, however I just can't stand it. I used to aim for above 1.0, now I am aiming for above 2.0 - it isn't healthy :(

Hm, sometimes a bit. Always a nice feeling when you book more kills than deaths. But that feeling vanishes after a few minutes so...

Though I have to admit, ONE TIME I really cared for it in Battlefield 3 because I played Sniper on my PS3 (and I'm not really good at sniping, especially not with Analouge Sticks) and somehow managed to get 0 deaths and 14 kills in one round.

That impressed myself a bit and I have it under my Match Favorites in Battlelog. It's like a very special medal to myself. But that's about it.

It depends on the game.

For games like CoD, not really. I'm not saying there isn't any skill based in those type of games, but with one shot kill weapons everywhere, random grenade spam, and the ever too frequent killstreak falling from the sky I can be randomly stopped by the worst player on my best day. Oh, look at that, I was killed by someone that no scoped me with a sniper rifle while he was in a panic taking damage from an automatic shotgun.

For various other shooters, like Halo, or older ones like Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament 2004 I'm less inclined to die since I know exactly what my character is capable of and I'm less likely to die from a stray bullet. If my K/D lowers in games like that I can be a little more irked.

Lately I've been more interested in scores though. Don't really care about my personal K/D if my team won the match and I know I contributed.

It's true. I've had a fantastic experience with Battlefield 3 and Bad Company 2 on the PS3, as far as community goes. I've had hit and miss community experiences on Killzone 2 & 3. The rest are like CoD it seems.

For example, I won several games in Capture the Flag in Black Ops II yesterday because, well, I'm pretty sure I was the only one going for the flag. Too bad too, as I really like Black Ops II so far.

Same deal with me. I mostly play objective-based matches, so i focus on the objective.

At the moment i've been playing a fair amount of domination and demolition in Black Ops 2 and usually end up with the highest score but fewest kills and most deaths because i persistently attack the objectives.

Yet, sadly, it seems the majority of the people playing COD and similar games treat objective-based matches as if they were team deathmatch or something, ignoring the objective so they can camp somewhere and get a 20+ killstreak. They end up losing the match though.

It depends on the gametype. While I would always prefer to be positive in K/D ratio, if I'm playing an objective gametype and helping the team, it doesn't really matter.

Well, for me, it depends on the game. Any normal shooter like CoD or Halo, I prefer to stay at least even, for the sake of my team. I know how bad it is to have that one guy who brags about having the most kills, but also has like 28 deaths or so. For Battlefield, I don't really care at all, especially if I'm doing something to benefit the team elsewhere. I.E. repairing vehicles, healing others, running around the map and providing ammo, spotting enemies with the MAV, etc.

Depends on the game. I play Battlefield mostly, and while I look at K/D and try to have a good one, I care far more about points and having a good score, cause that usually means you are getting a lot done for the team. And usually mine is among the highest (as are my kills) :)
