It's pretty simple, which Zelda game do you think is the best and most importantly why is it the best?

I'm on the OoT bandwagon. In terms of why I think it was the best, the atmosphere for the game was amazing when it first game out, and it was a wonderful transition to 3D from a 2D series. The story, while simplistic and typical, was moving and really gave you a sense of how the world changed when you become an adult.
hmmm...in my humble opinion...I have to say Zelda 2 was my favorite. It might have been simple, but everything from the story, to the music, to the side scrolling gameplay was first rate (in it's time).
For me it's "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" (SNES)
Becauseit somehowimproves upon theperfection that is "The Legend of Zelda" (NES).
Great graphics, music, gameplay, and you have one of the best video games ever made in my opinion.
I'd say the best Zelda game was Twilight Princess, it was like Ocarina on steroids.Archangel3371Yea, Ocarina is my favorite, but when christmas of 2006 rolled around, I really wanted a wii and twilight princess to go with. My parents of course couldn't find a wii, because they sold like hotcakes. They got me twilight princess for the gamecube and I really really enjoyed it. The gamecube version is superior because. it isn't all reversed. So for me, Ocarina of Time == Twilight princess.
I really like Majora's Mask, it was so much fun to play back when I was 12 or so. I did like Ocarina of Time but I think Majora's Mask had more of an impact on me because of all of the major characters that were vital for progression in the story.. the music... the art style.. everything :D
A Link to the Past, hands down. It has all the epicness ofthe later titleswith timeless gameplay, and you actually played as adult Link the whole time, not child Link, or Deku Link, or Wolf Link, or any other BS version of Link.
Ocarina of Time,Although Legend of Zelda NES is a very close second for me.
A Link to the Past is the last Zelda game I've played, so maybe it just didn't strike the chord of awe and inventiveness that that the other Zeldas have for me over the last 14 years.
In terms of my experiences: A Link to the Past In terms of impact on the industry: Ocarina of Time In terms of uniqueness: Majora's Mask I can say with confidence that I feel as if Skyward Sword is going to have an impact on the industry, and the series it belongs to, far greater than a lot of people are expecting. I don't doubt a lot of stubborn Ocarina-purists will decry the game, but I've only seen every subsequent game after Ocarina as an improvement for the series, and Skyward Sword is going to be a big step forwards.foxhound_fox
A lot hinges on the success of Skyward Sword. After 5 years, this will be the first true adventure to really utilize motion control, and the entire industry knows it and the future of all hardcore motion control games lies in SS.
Yes,it's cliche,but it's Ocarina of Time.
But you're not asking me which one is my favourite, you are asking me which one is the BEST.
So it's Twilight Princess.
The original Legend of Zelda nes game. For one reason; gameplay.
The other games in the series are good but this is the one I still go back to.
My personal preference is "A Link To The Past", was one of the first game I ever really got into. Now in terms of being the best I probably have to also go with "Ocarina of Time". It was a fun, long, interesting, and brought everything together into a complete package. I hear it sold pretty well too. :P
Looks like I'll be the first to say Oracle of Ages. 2D Zelda games hit a warm fuzzy spot deep in my boosum and Ages is the best of 'em, if you ask me. Next is Links Awakening which has a better story in my opinion but more annoying frustrating moments (finding those dumb shells!) and a very close third is A Link to the Past. I do need to revisit the two NES games and soon.
From the looks of it, Ocarina of Time seems to be considered the best by most of you, with A Link to the past in close 2nd, personally i think every game has been an improvement in the series (twilight Princess probably the least, but that doesn't change the fact that i loved the game), I want to say Ocarina of Time also because it was not only my first Zelda game, but my first video game, and i grew up playing it, although i think majora's mask is commonly overlooked, it was so well thought out, great sound track and so unique compared to not just zelda but any other games even today, Wind Waker is either overlooked or underrated simply because of the graphics, i personally loved the lighter cell shaded style and the legend aspect of the series is played out alot better in WW. Never played the Zeldas before OoT and now i feel like i really should!
Best: Majora's Mask - story, gameplay, soundtrack, characters, uniqueness (despite how annoying it is at time, it seems like they put a ton of effort into it)
Favorite: Ocarina of Time (although Wind Waker is close)
Personal favorite: Link to the Past. Everything Ocarina of Time did, only done first.
Runners-up: Majora's Mask. Dark, mysterious, twisted. Darker Zelda does not exist.
Wind Waker. The cool ocean breeze in my face, the open sea awaiting discovery. What mysteries await on the high seas?
