FFIV and Chrono Trigger makes a great bargain

I had this game many years ago, but decided to do this review until I completed Chrono Trigger. I never had beaten it on my first playthrough. It was a complicated issue. I never could defeat the final boss back then and got Game Over in a single blow. Now that i have finally beat it, here's the review.

Chrono Trigger is an excellent old-school RPG that debuted back on the SNES, a time when I had barely any experience with the genre. Chrono Trigger's gameplay and art style are what captivated me most. Akira Toriyama the same man who did the art design for the Dragonball, Dragon Quest, and Blue Dragon (Dang, he loves dragons doesn't he?) series lent his talent into the creation of this game. The gameplay is turned based like any typical JRPG, but battles are not randomly activated like most. Enemy encounters are either triggered by running into an enemy visible on the field or by being ambushed by said enemies.

The game has a dual tech system that sets it apart. The dual tech feature is when two party members use an individual special move to create a single attack. It requires MP from both users. Of course dual techs cannot be used if one participant needed is KO'd, asleep, etc. Later you'll acquire triple techs which are what they sound like. Though the combat is turned based it feels fast. The game gives you plenty of challenging enemies and bosses to deal with. There is also a fair amount of side quests to provide you with replay value before you beat the game. I recommend you do as many side quests as you can, which seemed to be the reason for not being able to complete so many years ago.

The story of the game is also fairly entertaining. The story is filled with twists and turns and the characters all have personalities that set them apart. My favorite two I say are Crono and Ayla. The game also has several instances where you can change the outcome of events and the game also has multiple endings, though I only have knowledge of one. The downside to this game is that it has slow loading times. At first it was aggravating to me, but I grew used to it. I'm a rather patient person. All around Chrono Trigger is a great game.

The second game featured in this package goes to Final Fantasy IV. I personally like FFIV more. It's how the music, graphics, gameplay, and story meld into something wonderful. I don't want to spoil really any of the game's story for you not even the beginning so I'll just state my personal opinion of it. The story of IV holds something dear to me. It does have one cliche or element that I think repeats itself too much without any justification, but it is great still. It has a feeling of a Ye Ole adventure. I would rank it below VIII's story, but above VII's and VI's. I believe this was the entry that introduced the ATB system that appeared in several FFs after it. It doesn't feel that slow here. The game can be quite challenging, but I like that. All in all FF Chronicles is a great deal for two games. Get it on Amazon, Ebay, or from a friend if you're interested.
