FIFA is quality, all across the boards. Don't compare, just enjoy.
The visuals in Fifa 06 are fantastic. Although many of the player faces are much the same, the player as a whole is a more refined figure: less jagged, movement is extremely smooth. A lot of the animations are fantastic. The stadiums are also eye candy, as in each edition before this years.
Sound is again, excellent. The eclectic music that just has that football feel to it is there. The commentators are new, but just as good. Match time comes around and the crowd delivers an atmosphere a lot like the real thing.
Now there in is the key success of FIFA. The atmosphere. I have yet to find another soccer game out there that can parallel EA's foot-child. Complain all you want about how PES's gameplay is more realistic, but it just doesn't have the glamour that is soccer. Sure, kicking the ball around and scoring goals is the main idea of the game, but its the emotion and heritage that have made it the world's most beautiful game. The introductory montage in 06 sums it up...Football is Life...and EA does a damn good job at emulating it.
I am a soccer/football fanatic. I also play in real life. I have no reason to put down PES. It is a good game. My taste, prefers FIFA. Especially this new version, with gameplay that is very much on par with Konami's simulation, and an aura about it that is all too lovely, Fifa 06 is a must get.
