A masterpiece by which all others would be measured marred by terrible bugs

I was a huge fanboy of Fallout 3, and completed the main story 4 times. When I found out this game was coming, I was thrilled to have a new story to play through.

Fallout NV takes everything from Fallout 3, and tries to add some great new stuff to the original model. Controls for companions, factions, different ammos, and a selection for new equipment to play around in. All the additions seem like great ideas, but it seems like maybe it made for too complex programming.

I say that because several of the quests seem to breakdown if you happen to encounter pieces of them out of order. It's sad in side quests, but it also happens in storyline quests. I was forced to wipe out an entire building worth of people because I had encountered a crook earlier, so couldn't question him when the quest kicked in. Even then the dialog didn't fit the scenario as it played out. I also found I lost the respect of a faction because of one kill who wasn't even part of that faction. The end result is I'm forced down a path I had never intended to be on, seemingly through no fault of my own.

Quest bugs aside the only other issue I've had are continued lockups and freezing of the game. These are irritating too, but at least the autosave feature keeps you from loosing too much data.

Still, despite these bugs I am still really enjoying the game. My only complaint outside of bugs is that the new ammo types and weapons can make having the right tools to take down some heavier monsters difficult. The world is absolutely huge, and there seems to be tons of quests. I am just finishing the final story quest now, after 50 hours, and there's still a large number of quests in my inventory. The world is more diverse that Fallout 3, and varied enough to remain interesting. There's some really great moments that you can encounter that aren't even quests.

Even with all the tech problems this a great game to own. It's simply a shame that all the bugs kept me from giving this the 9.5 I think it would of earned.
