After the dissapointing Evil Dead Hail to the King game that came out for the PSOne and the Dreamcast along comes Fistfull of Boomstick, A game that won't set any new trends or cause any gaming revolutions but is a hell of a lot fun to play. Story is depical Evil Dead storyline, Dead running loose in the world and its up to Ash to stop the deadites onces again. Not the best story in the world but people playing this game aren't playing it for the story. Graphic wise its decent, Not the best in the world but it gets the job done, Everything runs at a smooth 60 fps even with close to 50 Zombies running around on screen at once although Ash looks more cartoony than realistic for some reason. Now that I'm on the Deadites, The State of Emergency engine actually works here and nothing is better than tearing into a bunch of deadites at once with explosive shotgun shells and your trusty chainsaw. Gameplay is a snap because of its pick-up and play attitude, 2 buttons to attack and one to block, Pretty simply and easy to get into. Lots o' weapons to pick from later in the game from various types of boomsticks (shotguns) to pistols, shovels, miniguns and of course Ash's trademark chainsaw. Plus you can use magic this time using the Necronomicon, One cool spell lets you control Deadites. Sound is awesome since Bruce Campbell once again provides the voice for Ash. My main problem with the game is its lack of direction. Often you'll get lost with no clue about what to do next. You get told to do something but with no explanation on how to do it. Gameplay is pretty simple, Do this, Get that, Find this, Not exactly mind-bending stuff and its does tend to get old. Overall though this is a fun arcade style game thats easy to get into and I totally recommend it to an Evil Dead fans.
