Best shooter you never heard of.

User Rating: 9.2 | Einhander PS
By the time this game came out side-shooters were out of vogue and weren't even getting played on hand-helds. Square did a terrific job of trying to bring back the side-scroller but unfortunatly it just didn't catch on. The real tragedy with this game was that it was, and still is, a lot of fun to play and easy to get into. Kind of like an 80's arcade game, the gameplay was tuned so well that controlling the ship was never frustrating and levels didn't just get crammed with enemies so that dying felt "cheap" late in the game. While it is short, I can't say that I consider that a drawback for a shooter like this. Pausing, saving and getting back into a firefight is always a dicey proposition and most fans of the genre prefer to run through the games in one sitting rather than multiple sessions. So taken for what it is, Einhander is a great game worthy of second look and certainly a port onto a hand-held system or even a wireless network.
