Dark Souls is thrilling, mysterious and Dark. Those are the first impressions you will have when you start playing, yet this game offers a unique experience like no other, thanks to its smart level design and deep combat system.
Dark Souls looks amazing, the environment is detailed and you will notice how diverse it is. every time you play Dark souls you will feel more sucked in. The deeper you dig the darker and more interesting the game becomes, every part of the environment has its own unique style yet every part of the game is connected giving you a continuous adventure that you don't want to leave. Dark Souls great at making you feel lonely, terrified and unsafe. This game is just outstanding in putting you in the mood or a better description is invading your mood, at some point your brain will be invaded by Dark souls and its mysteries. You will encounter unimaginable enemies from small ones like rats to things as big as dragons but this isn't everything, those enemies are very tough, skilled and unpredictable, the game is full of surprises and many times come where it's better to run away than fighting some tough enemy that will usually crush you within seconds. Dark souls is very unforgiving; the slightest mistake will usually result in a big red "You Died" on the screen. Dark Souls teases you to explore, the huge mysterious environment and tough enemies waiting for you is what you are looking forward to, after a 3 hours in the game you will never expect things to be easy, once you defeat some boss or tough enemy you feel the achievement like no other game.

The game starts with a typical RPG customization screen; you choose your character's name, gender and class. The classes in Dark souls is a bit different from other RPGs; the only difference is the starting equipment and which attribute is stronger (has more points) but theoretically any class could become any other class throughout the game for example the knight class is a tank class with high strength and endurance but can't use magic, you can a make magic knight class throughout the game by upgrading its intelligence and learning some spells. The upgrade system uses what is called souls to upgrade each level you only add one point to one attribute this make the upgrade system a bit tricky a puts you in tough decisions along the game as its more difficult than sounds whether to use souls to upgrade or explore more in the game the reason behind that is you lose all your souls once you die and you have only one chance to get them back.
The combat in Dark Souls is great, it is precise and responsive, each time you fight an enemy you really need to think of a strategy, otherwise the smallest enemy will shred you into pieces. Dark souls is unique in building pressure and tension through the game one reason is losing your souls the other is the endurance system. The endurance system is highly coupled with the combat and movement of your character every action you make will reduce from your endurance meter, this makes the combat harder and more engaging as you always need to think about your next move otherwise you will end up vulnerable to enemy attacks, which "surprisingly" will result in "You Died" on the screen! In Dark Souls you will die, well, you will die a lot ! Actually dying is part of the game, you need to die in order to make a better strategy in other words watch and learn, sometimes this will end in frustration as you may lose a battle for a small mistake, making you repeat from the latest bonfire. Bonfires are like checkpoints but more scarce and will make every standard enemy in the game to respawn. The game always play well unless you find yourself stuck in some area because your level isn't enough; here comes soul grinding where you need to kill enemies collect souls and return to bonfire and repeat again ! this can be a boring task sometimes.

The item system in Dark Souls is unique, every item you obtain Is essential sometimes you won't even survive in some areas without a specific item, it is usually hard to decide whether to use a specific item or not as they are usually hard to find. The weapons in Dark Souls are diverse, each type of weapon has its own advantages and drawbacks, changing the weapon type changes the whole combat style; as the types of attacks and timing for each weapon is different, the diverse enemies in Dark Souls make it hard for you to focus on one type of weapon its better to use different types. It is extremely important to upgrade your weapon as you upgrade your character even if your character has high level, its strength is limited by the weapon being carried.
Boss fights is just phenomenal! Most of the boss fights are very tough, yet by planning , thinking of a strategy and executing your strategy well you will eventually beat them, well if not, there is always multiplayer. In Dark Souls multiplayer is different from any other game; basically you can leave a summon sign where other players can summon you to cooperate in defeating some boss or breaking through some area. That's not all you can also leave messages to other players to help (or mislead) them in their journey, usually it's a very helpful feature and it can save you hours of repetition.
In the end Dark Souls is an amazing outstanding game, thanks to its smart level design and accurate combat. But the question remains; is Dark Souls for everyone? If you are ready for a real challenge and patient enough for its punishing difficulty this game is for you, if you are looking for a game to play while relaxed then its definitely not.
