Searing frustration turns into unrivaled glee. No game is more rewarding than Dark Souls.

After nearly exhausting my options in Demon's Souls from playing it for nearly 300 hours, I must say I was excited when Dark Souls was announced. But, I was also worried. With a different Publisher as well as going multi-platform, this game stunk of possible disappointment. I am relieved to say it does not disappoint.

Dark Souls, like its predecessor, succeeds in a big way by forcing you to learn the different techniques the game has to offer. There are times when you simply have to learn how to do something well, or know what to use. I always thought of Demon's Souls as a next-gen NES game, and Dark Souls is the same way. Forging paths through the different hordes of enemies becomes routine. You will find yourself playing through many sections, many times. The open world is vast and waiting in bated breath to tell you it's many secrets and nuances. When you finally beat that boss that has been haunting your thoughts and dreams, it is pure elation. Everything from Demon's Souls has been improved: The controls are sharper, the moves are more responsive, and the leveling and weapon upgrading is more streamlined.

There is one glaring issue that holds this game back. The framerate can be very choppy sometimes. It is worse than Demon's Souls was and can slow gameplay quite a bit. On top of that, the online doesn't seem to be working quite right. I know that will most likely be fixed, but Demon's Souls online play worked so well!

Overall, this game is a must for action RPG fans. Did I mention it is hard?
