The Good : New Graphics engine, various game modes including 20-20 The Bad : Awful gamep

User Rating: 5.5 | Cricket 2005 PC
EA Sports Cricket 2005 (PC) is really a big disappointment. It is basically the old wine in a new bottle. The only major difference we find from the last year's Cricket 2004 is the implementation of new graphics engine with various player animations.

Graphics :
---------------
The game sports a new graphics engine. We can immediately recognize players' faces like Jason Gillespie, Daniel Vettori, Andrew Symonds etc. All the players perform variety of good animations while fielding, batting and bowling. Players from teams such as Australia, England, Newzealand etc. are modelled accurately whereas players from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are completely ignored. If you have played the game, you will notice that Sachin Tendulkar (India) and Chaminda Vaas (Sri Lanka) are identical !

Sound :
-----------
The game's commentary hasn't been improved and has almost same commentary from the last year's game. In between the game, sometimes Jim Maxwell talks about the pitch conditions and sometimes talk about the current best batsman in the world.

Gameplay :
----------------
Gameplay of this game is pretty bad and uneven. When batting, if the batsman has to play on the offside, he should stand a couple of feet away from the leg stump !

Driving the ball is pretty easy but the ball doesnt go into the gaps no matter how well you time it or how differently you place it and the fielders inside the ring move like a rocket to catch the ball.

While bowling, if the bowler consistently bowls dot balls, the form of the bowler increases and he gets a chance to bowl special delivaries like yorkers, bouncers, slower ones etc. for a pace bowler and for a spinner, googly, doosra, teesra, drifter etc.can be bowled.

Batsmen running between the wickets is slightly improved. The batsman can even dive to the grease or drag the bat by stretching forward when there is a tight run.

AI :
----
The AI in the game is pretty buggy. While in the practice nets, if the ball gets hit to the batsman when the batsman fails to connect it with the bat but if the timing is right, Jim Maxwell says, "Good Shot" !!! The fielders are very unrealistic. They are too quick and take catches spectacularly. They even sometimes drop silly catches. The third umpire replay is very boringly slow. Most of the times by listening to the commentary itself, we can make out if the batsman is out or safe.

Overall, it is a bad game. Buy the game if you are a diehard cricket fan. EA Sports makes FIFA and other games better but completely loses out when making Cricket. The only best cricket game out in the market is from Brian Lara Cricket 2005 from Codemasters available for PC and PS2.
