Can Castlevania: Lords of Shadow reign supreme over the other Castlevanias?

User Rating: 7 | Castlevania: Lords of Shadow PS3
The first 3D Castlevania game has finally arrived! The question is should you bother with it? The answer is yes and no (what else could i say to that question??) Well, i think i should go into the Pros and Cons because what's the point of them if i start talking about the bad and good up here.

PROS:
The game's story reigns supreme over the other castlevaniac (what else could i say?) features. The story tells the tale of a man, Gabriel Belmont, who lost his wife and now...she's dead. So, he travels to kill the three lords of shadow to obtain a mask that can grant him the oppurtunity to make Marie alive (how else could i say it?) or take her back from the dead. I lack the words to say it the proper way. The game is much more interesting than that. There are many epic boss fights in the game. Some are huge and some are your size. The cutscenes are beautifully mastered and give out emotion and sympathy and carry out the interesting story. This is a hack and slash with platforming and puzzles as well. The platforming was really fun and i enjoyed it more than the combat. Also, as you kill more people and solve puzzles, you get experience points and you can use those experience points to buy upgrades to your abilities or other combos/abilities or different weapons and that sort of stuff. The good thing is that at the very end you feel supreme which i love that kind of feeling in a game. I don't care if you guys disagree with me. There's also artwork as well to buy in the extras in the menu. All of that reigns supreme, but there are also problems to the game.

CONS:
The game's story is awesome, but the gameplay lacks the same feeling. Oftentimes, the camera didn't show some places that i could zip up to or jump to. When i was fighting a boss, the camera view kinda got in the way of fighting it. Also, i hate the control scheme. Konami decided to make some complicated combos which i was not fond of. The dashing ability is a pretty big part of the game, since you'll have to use it for some puzzles and that sort, but it was just more complicated to master than how it explained it. It took me a while to get used to it. Other controls got on my nerves as well. Most of the puzzles were fun to solve, except some of them, Konami should've been more obvious with them then they actually were. Although, some parts got frustrating, especially since i did the game on easy mode (squire mode), the game still got a fun feeling...at first. The problem is that the game is too long to keep up with. It took me 19 hours and a half to beat the game, but then again, maybe the puzzles just took me forever to solve or the boss battles took forever for me to master. Reviewers and such say that it took 12 hours. I think it would take 12 hours for a pro, because this game is much longer than that. I don't really appreciate long games, because i get sick of them. I don't understand those wierd gamers that want to keep on playing the same for years. Some game is 9 hours and yet they say it's not enough. Are you frikkin serious? Seriously, do you have a life to continue with or are you gonna be playing the same game for days or weeks. 9 hours is a decent amount of time. Now, when it's mass effect 2, then i want it to be long.

OVERVIEW:
Anyways, back to the game, as you can see, my Cons section was much longer than my Pros section which tells you that the game had more cons than pros. I think the story saves the game from me saying that it's not really a worth it title. The ending is epic and the story is compelling and that's why you should be playing it. The combat can get annoying, but can be fun at other times. The platforming, i enjoyed. The puzzles and some of the boss fights, i enjoyed. I mostly had a problem with the camera view and the length and maybe the control scheme. Anyways, i would recommend this game to the true gamers who actually care about stories and not go into a game just to play its lousy gameplay and that's it.
