I picked this up not knowing much about it and got a pretty good game.

User Rating: 7.5 | Call of Juarez X360
Story:The story centers around two very different characters and is pretty interesting to say the least at how the story is told with the cat and mouse style style of story and I can say I haven't really seen this type of story telling in a game too often. The first character is Billy Candle a young Mexican Man who lives in a town of who are racist against him and he decides to leave and search for the gold of Juarez. After an unsuccessful search for the gold he returns to his hometown of Hope where he is hated by his step-father,Thomas,and Thomas' brother Ray. Billy is mistreated by the people of Hope and flees the town and heads home, when he arrives he hears his mother scream and then the screen fades to black. We then take control of Reverend Ray McCall who is giving a church service when he is told by a woman that his brother is in trouble. Ray runs to the scene when he discovers both his brother and his wife Marissa dead. On the barn door, written in blood, words read "Call of Juarez" Ray then sees Billy looking panicked and flees the scene. Ray then goes after him but Billy soon escapes. Ray then decides to pick up his guns again and to kill Billy, to avenge his brother and "bring forth the wrath of the lord!!" The story is pretty interesting and has an interesting character dynamic, you play as Billy as he runs from the law and Ray,then you play as Ray as he goes after Billy and killing anyone in his way. The story gives off a strong western vibe with things such as treasure, duels, outlaws etc. The characters themselves are pretty interesting and you get to learn parts of their back story during loading screens. The game also hits a few interesting twists and is over all pretty good. The bad is really that it is really nothing amazing and if you plan on playing the prequel "Bound in Blood" there are a few spoilers in this game. However the game tells a good story and will keep you engaged through out.

Graphics: The graphics themselves are good, but nothing special. First lets start with the good:The environments look pretty good, the guns sound great, the voice acting is also great, for the most part and the atmosphere is well done and wells like a western. Now what isn't so: A lot of the character models don't look to great compared to the environments, the animations are not the best, some of the lines of dialogue tend to repeat themselves and there are a few bugs here and there. The bottom line is that the game is nothing special but it still looks pretty good.

Gameplay: The game is a standard shooter that takes a few risks like the setting and some of the physics but here is what I think. The shooting is solid and packs a punch and you get a decent variety of weapons. Billy and Ray both of different style of gameplay which I will discuss now. Billy's sections I feel are a little weak,at times, because they rely on two things that don't go well with an FPS and that is stealth and platforming. The stealth isn't broken but it is pretty basic and can be kind of boring just watching AI walk back and forth. Next is that the platforming is pretty clunky because you have to use this Indiana Jones style whip to traverse hazards. These sections are not broken but they are pretty hard and boring at times. Ray's sections are a lot better because there is no stealth and not as much platforming. His sections focus a lot more on straight forward shooting and are pretty fun. In the game you also get to ride horses which will take a little while to get used to but they break up the action and at the end of each level you partake in a duel. What I also like are the moments in the game when not much is going on and it is quite as you walk through the woods and just appreciate the silence. Now what isn't good, well it doesn't really try anything new, it is still a shooter at heart and it does that well but not well enough to be a great game. The shooting after a while can feel a little boring because it is not as fast paced as say CoD. While the game can be fun it just dosen't try anything new, save for a few things. When you finish the single player story mode you also get a few extra missions which will add a few extra hours of gameplay.

Multiplayer: I played it a few times and to be honest I found it to be nothing great so I won't count it in this review.

Overall:

Story: 8 Gives off that authentic western feel and has some interesting characters and twists along the way,but be aware of spoilers.

Graphics: 7.5 The environments look pretty good and most of the sound is well done but the graphics are nothing fantastic.

Gameplay: 7 Adds a few new things to the table but it is still just a shooter. nothing more, nothing less.

Multiplayer: N/A

Enjoyment: 7 Don't get me wrong I still had fun and I enjoyed the story and I got this game at a cheap price and I do recommend it if you are into this genre.

Final score: 7.3 (7.5)
