For me, indeed a revolutionary game.

User Rating: 9 | Call of Duty: World at War PC
Well, after reviewing the first 2 Call of Duty games, and skipping the third one because it was not released on the PC, I continue in the historical order and I am now reviewing Call of Duty: World at War.
This really is a great game and in my opinion better than the other ones I have reviewed. For me the thing that made it so was the darker view of the war. You can see people begging for their lives, you can see the ripped apart bodies or the badly wounded soldiers as they are looking for a missing body part. Maybe that makes me a little cynic but isn't that what war is? You also have some slight choices to make that can alter the storyline in a minor way. For example you can choose to attack the enemy form the right of the left side or you can choose if your enemy has to suffer or die a quick death. I think if you have about 4 or 5 decisions that can kind of influence the storyline. The ones I just mentioned are the smallest ones. The ones that really matter are the ones concerning the lives of your fellow brethren.
There are two campaigns, the Pacific and the Eastern Front, as they are called. In the Pacific campaign you play with Marine Private C. Miller, an American soldier, which with the rest of his division is trying to defeat the Japanese. Also there is a mission in which you play as Petty Officer Locke, a gunner on an American flying boat. I have to mention it was one of my favourite missions of the game. In the Eastern Front you play as Private Dimitri Petrenko, "The Heart of the Army" as you will soon be called. The first mission in this campaign you try to survive in Stalingrad, while the rest are played in the outskirts of Berlin, and Berlin itself. From my perspective the storyline is much better from the previous Call of Duty games, which probably made me give it a higher rating than the other ones. You kind of feel the sadness, the pride and the happiness of the man you are playing with.
The game has 15 missions. This means it is longer than the previous Call of Duty games I have played, but despite this I finished it faster.
The game play is similar to other games in the series:you can only carry 2 weapons at a time plus two types of grenades. If you are playing as an American you have the frag grenades and the smoke grenades. If you are playing a Russian you have the frag grenades or the Molotov cocktails. The AI-controlled teammates help you as you are making your way trough enemy territory. If you want to know more about the actual game play check out my review on Call of Duty 2 because it is exactly the same.
One last thing I must mention about this game, and a thing I really appreciated is the difficulty. With the other Call of Duty games not only that I swept trough them, but if I played the first and the last missions of the game I could not feel any different about the difficulty. Well, over here, as you advance, the game really gets harder and I found myself dying a lot at the last 2 or 3 missions of the game, especially in the Eastern Front campaign.
To sum up I really think you should check this game out because I really consider it to be REVOLUTIONARY.
