It was fun while it lasted. This game is a very good game for a rental.

User Rating: 7.2 | Call of Duty 2: Big Red One GC
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One takes you on a venture off to battles in during WWII. This is a good title overall, but it doesn't do much to make this anymore different than all other other WWII FPS games.

The controls are perfect and make sense on the GCN controller. One stick controls movement and the C-stick looks around. Using the L trigger, you can use the gun to aim to get precise shots at your enemies.

The gameplay of this game is the same as most other WWII FPS games. You have your squad and you run around completing various objectives. It is nice that you can see precisely what you have to do by pressing in the down direction of the D-pad. You stick with the same squad throughout the entire game. You get to know everyone, and if one of them dies, you know it. All the other squad members react to it and dramatic music plays too. This helps capture the horror of war.

There is a variety of guns you can weild, ranging from a Tommy Gun, to a Panzerschreck. Most of the time though, it feels like shooting gallery. So many enemies line up to get picked off by your might M1 Garand. I played this on normal, so it might be a different story on hard mode. The enemies though do a good job trying to flank you and hide when you are sending a barrage of grenades at them.I cannot even imagine how easy this game would be if i were to put this on easy mode.

The graphics are not impressing, but they are not bad. The water effects though were horrid, and sometimes people go through objects, but nothing sticks out too badly.

All the sound effects were outstanding. All the guns sounded like they should, and when heavy artillery fires and hits near you, you go deaf for a moment or two, and everything fades back in. That was a nice touch.

As a whole, this game doesn't offer much. It is good for playing through once, but after that it is pointless. The little extras it offers doesn't add to the value in this game. It does give you a little bit of a history lesson though. With everything this game has to offer, it just doesn't justify a purchase. Just rent this game. It will be fun while it lasts.
