Classic RPG with an amazing cast and a solid storyline combine that with a good combat system and this is a great game.

You begin watching Nina and Cray crossing the desert on a hovercraft. Suddenly they are attacked by a huge sand dragon and it wrecks their vehicle. Then Nina is sent to find parts for the vehicle while Cray guards it while she is on her way she comes upon you "Ryu", you are in the middle of a giant crater completely naked. You seem to have amnesia and have no recollection of where you came from or how you got here, she then asks you if you want to come with her and you answer yes.

Soon you find yourself pulled into Nina and Cray's struggle to find her missing sister. While on this journey looking for her missing sister you discover you have the power to transform into a dragon capable of massive strength. Due to this new found power you find yourself constantly on the run trying to be captured by The Empire a nation that the area you are from The Alliance is at war with. This is how the journey of Ryu and his friends begins…

Breath of Fire IV does what many games have done, they have you play through multiple perspectives. In this case 2, Ryu the main character who you play 90% of the game and Fou Lou another with the power to transform into a dragon and the one who founded The Empire long ago. This allows you to get to know all the characters in the story and what they go through in a whole new view. The story in this case is very well made with an excellent cast of characters and a good plot that will defiantly keep your interest.

The battle system isn't that unlike most RPGs you can have 3 members fighting at the same time. Each with their own unique talents, skills, and spells for turn based combat, you can also switch out members at the start of every round to keep your party alive and strategically take down your foes. There is a master system, this allows you to train with different masters all over the world teaching you many different skills and altering your base stat growth to change the character how you prefer them.

Yet again I am put in the position to grade the graphics of an older game something I find great difficulty in doing. Although old and pixely it may be, it is not to the point in which it impairs your gaming experience even a little I even prefer the cool variety of 2D sprites that the game uses.

Although a very good game Breath of Fire IV it has one problem, it fails to compete with its predecessor Breath of Fire III an amazing game and the best of the series. Anyone who has played 3 and like it I would suggest to play 4 cause you would also like it, and anyone who has played through 4 already and hasn't played 3 you will love it so defiantly try it out. I would rate Breath of Fire IV a 8.7 out of 10 for a good solid storyline with a great cast and solid gameplay that you'll love.

This review will show up as a 9 due to Gamespot unfortunately not allowing a 8.7 to be selected.
