A diamond in the rough.

This game may surprise you. It offers a combination of game play and story elements that you've seen before in games like witcher and dragon age. The story telling is vulgar at times to support its own style of quirky humor which may make or break the game for you. The fact is the main character acts like a jerk a lot of the time. some people have posted this as a bad thing. Well considering your part of a mercenary team at the brink of the end of the world ask yourself, are you going to spew sugar coated BS or tell it like it is? i like to think the latter.

The story has its own unique lore to it that i found refreshing, the only downside is their isn't more of it, this is a relatively short game.and could use a push in fleshing out npc character development and story points. you can easily see where their is room to expand, but it feels kind of rushed. The plus is their is room to have a sequel which expands on what the game already is, or an expansion., but kind of a short game overall.

The game play while initially is enjoyable has a handful of problems, the different skill tree's seem unbalanced as far as what is useful and what is not. The warrior's block and kick mechanic seems to be lacking in comparison to the ranger's dodge mechanic. if playing on any difficulty other than Easy, stick with the ranger skill tree and a couple of the more useful pyromancer spells. while i haven't fully explored the possibilities for skill building this seems to be the best method of curbing the challenging enemies. well placed bombs seem to be helpful as well, and exploring mana boosting options for the few useful pyromancy spells is a must. however their are some tricks to help overcome the shortfalls.

One of the game's best aspects is the crafting system, whether your recycling a weapon or armor for spare parts, or enhancing a weapon or armors stats. Building bombs and potions becomes a must as well. Their are also a number of enhancements you can add to your character through what the game calls feats. Which can make items and certain weapon types more useful as well as add some bonuses to your characters stats.

Overall i think this game is entertaining enough for at least a couple play through's and has enough to offer to make it worth your time. However, you may want to wait a bit for the price to come down, or simply rent it.
