Blazblue is a game for the hardcore fighting game fan.

User Rating: 8.5 | BlazBlue: Continuum Shift PS3
Blazblue is a 2d fighting game made by Arc System Works. It is the counterpart to Guilty Gear. Actually, a Guilty Gear fan will be able to see similarities in these characters with GG characters.
The first thing that you notice about Blazblue are the graphics. The graphics are stunning and a major plus for this game. All of the characters look cool and unique and they even have different color palletes to sort of personalize each character. There is even a gallery which has a lot of fan art and unlockables which is really cool and rewarding.
The sound of Blazblue is another plus for the game. The music in the game is really sweet and makes the fights seem more epic. There is also an option to change the voices of the character from English to Japanese. And both voice types are tight. The voice acting in the game for both options is phenomenal.
Now for the gameplay. BB is a really hardcore fighting game and it plays a lot like Guilty Gear. There is an A,B,C, and D attack button. Each character has sort of a gimmick to make them different from the others (Ragna's D attack moves drain your health and replenish his, Rachel the vampire can control the wind, etc.) And each character has a really flashy finishing move called an Astral finish. Doing your Astral in this game is a lot easier to do than it was in Blazblue: Calamity Trigger. The game's controls and terms can be really tricky. Luckily, there is a a beginner mode for new players and a very detailed tutorial that not only guides you from the bare-bones basics to the the most advanced techniques, but it even breaks down each character to a level that any beginner can understand. The balancing in this game is spot on, with no one character being too overpowered.
Next is the multiplayer. The multiplayer is really plain. The menus are kinda boring looking. It is aggravating to navigate through them sometimes. Finding an equal level opponent is also a challenge. There is a feature to find players of your skill, but it takes forever for it to find a match. You are better off just choosing quick match, but you will more than likely be playing up against a player who is very experienced and will be able to dispatch of you quickly. But playing ranked isn't the real draw of the online. Its the player matches that really excel. Up to 8 players can play in a session, and you can set certain restrictions as to who is allowed to join your room. You can even set which version of the game you want(such as 1.01, 1.02, etc.). Plus the netcode is amazing, the game feels really responsive and even in the worst conditions, the game feels playable.
The game is only $40, but you get a lot of content. There is an arcade mode,a Legion mode, A score attack mode, a Story mode, a practice mode, online, and a challenge mode. If you buy this game, you will definitely be getting your money's worth. There is a plethora of content to keep you coming back. If you are a fighting game fan, or if you are looking for something other than Street Fighter, This is worth your time and money
