AudioSurf won't cost you that much now these days, but it also gives you a chance to play your own music

User Rating: 7.5 | AudioSurf PC
Music has been around for many years for Music Rhythm games there's been games like Parappa the Rapper, Dancing Stage and Guitar Hero. But most of those games don't let you listen and play your own music during gameplay, there's always been certain tracks and songs for sale for DLC for certain games and paying a price for them. AudioSurf is little different from other music games.

Gameplay: You are levitating vehicle similar to those found in Wipeout or F-Zero. It maneuvers down a colourful multi-lane highway, collecting blocks in a manner similar to Klax or Guitar Hero. The ship is controlled either by using the mouse, arrow keys, the number keys, or a Gamepad if you have one around when playing other PC games. You're scoring points by collecting coloured blocks and forming clusters of 3 or more of the same colour. The more blocks one accumulates in a cluster, the more points you score.

Default colour setting of the game, blocks which appear in hot colours such as red and yellow are worth more points, while cool colours such as blue and magenta are worth less. There's a choice in choosing what difficulty you play it on Easy, Normal or Hard.

Graphics and Sound: AudioSurf synchronizes the environment, traffic patterns and scenery with the events in the current song you play on your list. Each music file imported to the game by the user is first analysed by the game engine, and an ASH file. But if you've played games like WipEout or Rez you may get the idea what I'm on about on its visuals and graphics.
During gameplay it's just mainly a vehicle on the screen hitting and avoiding colours on the screen, there isn't else much to say and doesn't have any problems on its glitches and faulty camera system.

If you've bought AudioSurf of Steam it'll come with The Orange Box Soundtrack which has Half Life 2, Portal and Team Fortress soundtracks. If you've played either of those games you'll enjoying playing and listening your favourite soundtracks and themes. But if you have any music on your system you can play them where ever it's game music or rock music.

Overall: Nothing else too much to say this is a simple music rhythm game for anyone who's new to gaming or wanting something else for a change from playing something on their consoles. I wouldn't say that you'll playing this game all the time, but they'll be times when you'll be coming back to this now and then. Whatever music you play on AudioSurf its score can be posted online and other players will have their score on too.

If you see it on Steam for under £1/$1 it's worth the pick up for that price and wouldn't take much space on your laptop or PC.
