Witcher 3 Dev Hopeful for a Fourth Game

What would you like to see from a fourth Witcher game?

Given that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has shipped around 10 million copies, there is clearly a business opportunity to make a fourth game. However, CD Projekt Red is moving on to Cyberpunk 2077 after it releases the RPG's final add-on, Blood and Wine, later this month.

After Cyberpunk 2077, however, might CD Projekt Red return to the Witcher series? Witcher 3 game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz hopes so.

"Personally, I hope that someday in the future we will do something more because I love the setting and I work on The Witcher games around 12 years right now," he told Eurogamer. "But I don't know what we will decide. The strategy plan they've got they will share with us soon. We'll see."

The Witcher 3 wrapped up Geralt of Rivia's story, so if there is to be a Witcher 4, presumably a different hero would take over. CD Projekt Red boss Marcin Iwinski said last summer that the world of The Witcher is "gigantic," with plenty of new story opportunities to pursue in the future.

Cyberpunk 2077 is due out sometime in the 2017-2021 window. Also during this window, CD Projekt Red will release an unannounced "AAA RPG title," the developer said during a business meeting in March. You won't have to wait that long to play something new from CD Projekt Red, however, as Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion comes out on May 31, while a new game is coming before the end of this year.

Interestingly, the unannounced CD Projekt Red game will be a "new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio."

A Witcher movie is also in the works with The Mummy producers, but CD Projekt Red does not appear to be involved. The film is expected to premiere in 2017, but there are no details on a cast, director, or story.
