Why Star Wars Battlefront Doesn't Worry GTA 5's Parent Publisher
"When you buy Star Wars, it does not keep you from buying something of ours."
Grand Theft Auto and Borderlands parent publisher Take-Two Interactive is not worried that Star Wars Battlefront will steal many sales away from its games. In fact, the buzz around Battlefront could help Take-Two games sell ever better, as more people may be in stores and come across one of theirs, according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.

"I think we all wish we had [the Star Wars license]," Zelnick told Bloomberg Business. "We're happy for our competition. It's good for everyone. It creates excitement in the market. There really are only four big participants in our space; that's not that many."
He didn't name these outright, but Zelnick is likely referring to Take-Two, Activision, Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft, considered to be the biggest players in the industry.
The executive went on to say that people buy games if they find them to be compelling enough. So even if they buy Battlefront, that won't necessarily keep them from buying, say, Grand Theft Auto V, NBA 2K16, or any number of Take-Two catalog titles.
"The entertainment business is not fungible," Zelnick explained. "When you buy [Star Wars Battlefront], it does not keep you from buying something of ours. It creates excitement; you're in the stores, you're online, you're buying catalog.
"The thing about entertainment is you never need to buy entertainment, so if there's nothing you want out there, you don't buy anything," he added. "And if there's a lot out there, you tend to buy it all."
Take-Two doesn't have many new releases this holiday, but has a number of bundles lined up like the Evolve Ultimate Edition and a Borderlands Triple Pack. In addition, as Zelnick notes, Take-Two's catalog titles and new releases like NBA 2K16 and WWE 2K16, among others, are likely to sell well during the holidays.
