Westworld Creator Talks About That Character's Fate [SPOILERS]

Last night's episode of Westworld saw the character Elsie enter a abandoned theater by herself. She did so in search of answers about a theory she'd been working on with Bernard, one that implicates Theresa Cullen, a Westworld higher-up, as potentially being involved in some wrongdoing.

The episode, "The Adversary," ended with a person shrouded in darkness putting their hand over Elsie's mouth and dragging her away. Things don't look good for Elsie. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy said she is personally a big fan of the Elsie character, but is also "worried about her" after what happened in Episode 6.

"She's been fearless and asking questions she shouldn't ask that are the exact ones I would ask in that situation. I'm hopeful she's okay but worried she's not," Joy said.

This isn't confirmation one way or the other that Elsie is dead, but it looks like she's in trouble.

One of the other standout scenes from Episode 6 was when the host Maeve coerced park programmers to let her walk through the labs to see how robots like herself are made. It's a profound moment for the character, as she comes to realize the nature of her existence. The scene was beautiful, set to a different version of Radiohead's "Motion Picture Soundtrack." Here's Joy's take on the sequence:

"It's one of those moments where you realize as a writer that sometimes the best thing you can do is step back and let the actors and the director and mood and the music [take over]," she said. "On the page, it sounds like a cool scene. But then you see Thandie's performance, and [co-creator Jonathan Nolan] is a huge fan of Radiohead and has been very involved with making all these musical calls. So Jonah cut it together with our amazing editing team and when I saw the scene I started crying--I had no idea it would be this emotional. I didn't know it would be the most important scene of this episode."
