US Army Has Reportedly Stopped Streaming On Twitch Amid Controversies

The US Army has streamed in nearly two weeks after being the subject of controversy.

The US Army has reportedly stopped streaming on Twitch after backlash, according to esports consultant Rod Breslau. The US Army Twitch channel, which the military uses for recruitment purposes, has received backlash for banning users from its Twitch and Discord for discussing War Crimes. Twitch recently asked the US Army to stop promoting a seemingly fake giveaway that gave information to recruiters for its lack of transparency.

On Twitter Breslau said that the US Army has temporarily stopped its social activity, streaming on Twitch, and participation in events like Twitch Rivals. There is no set time frame for the US Army's return to Twitch but it could wait until Spring 2021. The pause is on the US Army's end; Twitch's official partnership with it and the US Navy will continue.

A US Army spokesperson told GameSpot "The team has paused streaming to review internal policies and procedures, as well as all platform-specific policies, to ensure those participating in the space are clear before streaming resumes."

The US Army Twitch channel hasn't been active in nearly two weeks amid the controversy. The US Navy's Twitch channel has continued to stream as recently as yesterday. The US Navy has also been banning viewers for discussing or asking about war crimes in the Twitch chat.

Recently, U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) introduced a measure that would prevent the military from using video games, esports, and live streaming platforms like Twitch for recruitment purposes.

@hiphipjorge9: Yeah pesky things like giving you your freedom to talk trash on the internet is propaganda. Would not have to advertise for recruitment so much if you people had any sense of patriotism at all.

@gaeandilth: yeah, thank god that the government lied us into a 20 year war. I wouldn’t be able to post freely on the internet is Saddam was still alive. Bin Laden too, he really hated comment sections.

@hiphipjorge9: The government or the politicians did that not the military. The real military is a bunch of young people doing their job. And doing it better then anyone else in the world.

@gaeandilth: “just doing there job” so, the Nuremberg Defense?

Our founding fathers would be disgusted at our nation’s sycophantic worship of this interventionist military.

how about just stop trying to censor things you don't like to talk about that would be a good start.

Good. Surely they have better things to do. Normally I wouldn't care that much but what they are pulling here is pretty under handed. So EF off please.

Look... They have every right to ban folks that they don't like from THEIR chans... But should they? It's a bad look lol. Especially when we know the reason. They don't like being judged for horrible stuff that they did lol. Simple as that...

I run a shop. I could ban tons of folks but does that look good? Not really lol. Should I do that? Lol no.

Was this all about the UwU thing as well as denying any war crimes committed by the USA Army, or was it about the memorial day mention backlash regarding the botched rape and murder investigation of a female soldier?
