It's been a very long time coming, but two fan-favorite entries in the long-running Dragon Quest franchise are finally coming to the West. Nintendo confirmed during a Direct presentation today that Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King will come to 3DS in America sometime in 2016.

DQ7 is due out first, slated sometime for early summer. DQ8 is already available as a port on mobile devices worldwide, and both games are already out on 3DS in Japan.

While the presentation provided few concrete details, the release of DQ8 in Japan included StreetPass functionality and a slew of preorder bonuses.

The game's director had previously stated that bringing the games to the West would depend on the performance of Dragon Quest Heroes (which was inadvertently revealed earlier today to be coming to Steam).
