Lucasfilm has a number of Star Wars virtual reality projects in development. In addition to Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine for HTC Vive and a VR version of Star Wars Battlefront for PlayStation VR, Lucasfilm is also working on a Darth Vader VR experience with a big name attached to it.

Announced at Star Wars Celebration in London this weekend, the untitled project is a collaboration between Lucasfilm's immersive entertainment division, ILMxLAB, and Hollywood writer David Goyer. He worked on Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, as well as Man of Steel. Goyer was also a co-writer on 2012's Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

"When we looked at all the characters, places, and worlds in the Star Wars universe available to us, we asked ourselves, 'What haven't we seen before? Who are we curious about?" Goyer said during a Celebration panel, as reported on the Star Wars website. "Darth Vader is the perfect ambassador to usher us into the Star Wars VR universe."

According to The Verge, the untitled Darth Vader VR project will represent an entirely new and original story inside the Star Wars universe. Lucasfilm creative director Pablo Hidalgo added that the story will be considered canon, though there are no plot details available right now.

"You are the visitor in this story that is happening in and around you, and to a certain extent you might even have some effect on [the narrative]," Goyer said. "You can pick up things, you can open things. You can push things, you can walk. You can touch characters."

The experience--it's being called that, as opposed to game--takes place in a "persistent" world that features day/night cycles and changing weather conditions. No other details or a release date have been announced.
