Star Wars Ahsoka's Beloved Droid Chopper Gets Its Own Animatronic Toy

Hasbro's Chatter Back Chopper is an interesting addition to anyone's Star Wars collection.

When Ahsoka Tano made the jump from animated Star Wars fare like Clone Wars and Rebels to live-action with the Disney+ Ahsoka TV show, it was exciting to see beloved animated characters come to life. One character, in particular, was the lovable droid Chopper. First introduced in Rebels, Chopper became a favorite among Star Wars fans. And now, those fans can bring home what is actually a pretty entertaining recreation of the little guy.

Chatter Back Chopper is an animatronic toy from Hasbro that's part of the Ahsoka line of products. This "toy" isn't yet another entry in the Black Series or Retro lines, though. Instead, this 7.5-inch-tall recreation of Chopper is a sound- and touch-activated robot that doesn't really care to sit still or keep quiet. After all, when is Chopper just sitting around peacefully in Rebels or Ahsoka?

Instead, this Chopper includes over 40 different sound and movement combinations, most of which resemble the lovable bucket of bolts making lots of noise, while shifting back and forth on its legs and whipping its arms around. It's pretty entertaining asking it questions and getting a bunch of beeps and boops in response as it shakes back and forth. When you add in its poseable arms, the paint details, and the screen-accurate sounds, you're left with a pretty impressive collectible.

In truth, the only thing it's missing is the ability to follow you around the house, continuing to make noises at you, attempting to hold a conversation. If anything, that's why this toy might be a better fit for older fans than those ages 4 and up, which the package suggests. It's a fun novelty and a worthy addition to your shelf of Star Wars goodies--especially if they love Rebels and want something more substantial than the previously released Black Series Chopper.

It just doesn't feel like something a kid would get repeat use out of. Not only isn't it in scale with other Star Wars toy lines, its price tag likely places it out of reach for parents looking for something cheap to entertain their kids.

At a retail price of $80, Chatter Back Chopper feels a bit out of reach compared to most of the kids' toys you'll find at the store or online. As far as collectibles go, though, it's fairly reasonable. The only comparable Chopper toy is the remote-controlled version available at Disney's Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme park lands in California and Florida, as well as on Shop Disney . This version of Chopper is bigger and controlled via remote (so he can follow you around). However, it also costs $20 more at a retail price of $100, and while it is remote-controlled, you are giving up the voice-activation of Chatter Back Chopper.

If you're a Rebels or Ahsoka fan, Chatter Back Chopper is ultimately a good fit for your collection. You just might not love the idea of your child playing with it, depending on how rough they are with their toys.
