SNES-Style Controller For Nintendo Switch Coming This Year

Compatible with PCs and mobile devices too.

Nintendo Switch players looking for a more retro experience will be happy to know 8Bitdo is making a replica SNES controller built with the system in mind. The SNES30 Pro features Bluetooth, USB-C, rumble vibration, motion controls, and player indicator LEDs--of course, it looks just like a traditional SNES controller. Check it out below.

On the right, you'll also see the Super Famicom-style model, if you'd like to capture the classic Japanese design instead. Both are replacements for the Switch Pro Controller, but they will work on PCs and mobile devices as well. They're slated to be released this holiday season.

There are two other new ways to play Switch (and PC) coming from 8Bitdo too. You can get even more old school with the NES30 Arcade Stick (below).

The company is also releasing the set of speakers below called the Twin Cube Stereo Speakers, to boost the audio experience. They're wireless, but have an AUX input. Both the speakers and the NES Arcade Stick are due out sooner than the SNES-style controllers, coming this fall.

No Caption Provided

Last month, 8Bitdo updated the firmware on its full library of controllers to make them compatible with Nintendo Switch. Not all the controllers will work perfectly with every Switch game, but the company says the new SNES controllers by the end of the year will be perfect fits for Switch's full library of games.

8Bitdo revealed its new controllers at E3, and you can click here to see our full coverage of all the gaming hardware that was released during the expo on day 1 and on day 2.

With the most recent System Update to the Switch you're supposed to be be able to use this over USB in addition to Bluetooth.

Whoa. Although I've never been a superfan of Nintendo--especially in recent years, I've always been fair. And cute is cute. And these things ARE super-cute! Yes, even the funky Arcade Sticks. Nice one, @8Bitdo.

These are great controllers, I have the nes and super nes ones and the SFC30 pro. I don't have a switch or any intention of getting one, but you can pair them with pretty much anything as you know what you're doing. I use mine with my PC and my pi. If you are at all into retro gaming/emulation these are by far the best controllers on the market IMO. You can even use them with your phone if you want to. That bluetooth arcade stick is next on my list I think!

I have the SFC30 and I love it. Pain in the ass for first time set up but after that, great :) Perfect for games you just need a few buttons. Judging on how better it feels when playing NeoGeo games on Switch, I can't wait for VC to come out....whenever that is. Comes beautifully packed too. ;)

Just throwing my 2¢ out on 8bitdo's quality... I own several of their products and they are 99% 1:1 matches to the original Nintendo controllers in look and feel. These are leagues better than the NES/SNES clone controllers you find at the hipster retro game stores in America.

Conversely, you pay for quality... they tend to cost $30 or more a piece. But they're easy to buy via Amazon with Prime.

I can understand if the Joycons are shit, but why would you release an alternative controller which has been rendered obsolete 20 years ago? Controllers have come a long way since the SNES controller. So you have a shitty controller due to the tablet design.....and another shitty controller purely due to nostalgia

@jhcho2: That's this manufacturer's gig: making retro-style controllers. And judging by the overwhelming positive feedback they're getting from consumers, I guess the reason for them to make those ''obsolete'' ''shitty'' controllers is because they make money out of it and there's a market for it, i.e. people want that stuff.

@sellingthings: I got my money back and played the only game i wanted to on it. And it wasn't even that good, yes im talking about zelda. Dungeons would have made that game WAY better. Yes i beat it,i put 80hrs in it,hoping to find whatever it was everyone was freaking out about. The switch was just missing something, the fact the it sat in a house with 5 people 3 of them kids, and no one played it, says something. We game alot btw so dont use the "your not gamers" BS

@effinjay: I can agree with this. I did enjoy Zelda but its far far from a perfect game, would it be another company/game it would be bashed for camera issues and other things like framerate and what not. It got a special treatment just because its a Zelda game. It was fun and everything but not a 10/10 by any means.

I like the idea behind portability but for me PS4 pro is better thanks to much better game library and graphic (yes i do care about that, playing Horizon and man this game is so nice! I have played very little but this is even better then Zelda from what i seen so far)

I might not be the right user for the Switch but i dont have time to play it when i'm on work or on the go, i like to sit on my couch and enjoy my games and play for atleast 1-2 hours at a time. So i dont even see myself carrying the Switch all that much. IT has happened that i tried it in bed for some platforming game like Shovel knight but i die to much, prefer the Pro controller and a big screen.

I am keeping mine mainly for Metroid and Mario (even if i'm sick of Mario, however the new one looks interesting).
Not so many other games that are exclusive that i really want. Maybe Xenoblade2.....

@vampyren: I tried playing mine at work too,but only being able to do it on breaks, just wasnt doing it for me. I can just play Hearthstone on my cell. Yea maybe in a yr when the price drops and they have alot more games i might pick it back up,but for now it just wasnt for me. I loved Horizon zd btw, great game with an amazing story, way better then zelda. Zelda should have been an 8.9 not a 10,that's for sure.

@effinjay: Exactly, i would give Zelda 8/8.5 or so, great game but its not best in any particular category i think.

I also sometimes play Hearthstone or other smaller games on my phone, its more convenient then the Switch which is to heavy, to big, takes more battery etc. When i travel for vacation i will bring it with me so thats nice but for day to day use not i dong think i use it outside of the dock much.

Also the way its going i think the Switch will end up like the WiiU. Most thirdparty say they are interested but nothing substantial is shown. Most new AAA games are being released on PS4/XB1 and PC. Unless Nintendo persuades the big thirdparty to bring the games to the Switch at the same time as the others i'm afraid the gap will increase and it will be the same story as WiiU where only Nintendo will be making a few games and focus on ports. So far the interests has been huge but the question is if that is enough for big companies to make the Switch a default platform for new games.

@effinjay: Why would I be angry that you bought something and then sold it after playing one game? I just find it really weird and kinda dumb.

I mean, if we're doing the list of possibilities thing, either

1) That's the only game you wanted to play for the switch, n which case I wonder why you bought one when you coulda just got a cheap Wii U and played it that way

2) You wanna play more switch games later, in which case I don't know why you'd sell the console.

The arcade sticks somewhat reminds me of the NES arcade controller. The speakers I want. As for the controllers, I'm not fond of 3rd party controllers unless they're officially licensed
