SNES Classic Edition Pre-orders Available Right Now In The US [UPDATE: SOLD OUT]

Here's your chance to secure one.

Update: Sure enough, the SNES Classic has sold out. We'll report back as other retailers bring their SNES Classic pre-orders online, though keep in mind we don't yet know how soon those will be coming.

Original Story: The Super NES Classic Edition is available for pre-order right now in the United States. You can place an order through Walmart's website, but hurry--it's possible they will sell out quickly.

Now Playing: 6 Games Missing From The SNES Classic Edition

The micro console was announced In June and a round of pre-orders became available in Europe soon after. However, there has been frustratingly little word on how or when those in the US would be able to pre-order. If you miss out on this Walmart availability--or simply prefer to shop elsewhere--it seems likely that other retailers will offer pre-orders prior to the system's release on September 29.

No Caption Provided

For $80, the SNES Classic includes a total of 21 of the Super Nintendo's best games. One of those games is Star Fox 2, a title that was never officially released to the public. You can see all of the SNES Classic games here.

Last year's NES Classic Edition was notoriously difficult to come by. It sold out well in advance of its launch, and additional shipments were gone virtually the second they became available. This resulted in prices skyrocketing on the secondhand market. Nintendo ultimately discontinued the system before demand could be satisfied--a situation that many fear will also be the case with the SNES Classic. Nintendo has already said its current plans are only to offer the system until the end of 2017, but it claims it will offer "significantly more" units this time around.

This is all about driving up demand for classic games on the eshop. They release these pos consoles, then snatch them away. Consumers are left pissed off but thinking at least they can still get the games for their switch or whatever. I really wish people wouldn't humor nintendo.

Why people want to pay $80 for an emulator, idk. I certainly wouldn't give Nintendo my money for the kind of garbage they pull with their retro systems.

@timmyp1982: Exactly this- you're just some limpdick who has a hateful agenda toward Nintendo, but is willing to drop the same amount on a totally sub-par product. What a heel.

@timmyp1982: At least Nintendo actually put out things that people want, as opposed to your beloved ATGames. Try denying that, pencildick.

@timmyp1982:

1. Nobody wants to see it. Keep it in your mouth or ass or wherever it is currently lodged.

2. Cool story, little boy. Tell it again while SNES sells out and ATGames sit on shelves.

3. That doesn't even make sense. Take an English class, learn how to compose sentences.

Also: 10x the amount of content? Put that crack pipe down. Your willingness to share your unwashed fallace online reveals your political affiliations, ratboy. I love how you rushed in to affirm that your dick isn't pencil like. Now I'm really inclined to believe that.

@timmyp1982:

Sure, there are many Japanese exclusive games. It has to do with the market and the cost of bringing things to market - paying for IPs and whether there's viable potential for return on paying all the involved fees, or potential for profit. Japan has a much larger market for these things AND they don't have to be re-translated for releases that never came out in English (which costs more money). Nintendo is a business, based in Japan. They create shit for Japanese audiences, the rest of the world doesn't consume everything they make, so they won't waste money trying to satisfy a very niche market that will, with minimal effort, find other ways to get what they want anyway.

Besides, why does it matter? When the SNES Classic comes out, someone will hack it in like a week and then you'd be free to load it up with as many FFVI versions as you want. That way you can have something that not only looks like a cute tiny SNES, has ACCURATE controllers with the same feel as way back when, but also actually has exclusively SNES games on it, and even if the emulation isn't 100% accurate, it might make you reminisce of simpler times when you played on a SNES in the living room instead of swatting the flies away from your mother as she lied dead-drunk on the porch from the night before.

Just because you don't want a product doesn't make everyone who wants that product stupid. It's true for NES Classic, it's true for SNES Classic and it's true for toilet paper.

@timmyp1982: Foolio, I didn't grow up playing Final Fantasy games, I don't care. And it's not a cop-out, it's BUSINESS. If you think investing that money without being sure you can make it back at least is a good idea, good luck to you, you must be worse with money than I am - and I want to waste them on "classic mini" emulation consoles. I agree reselling these games over and over for profit sucks and is unethical, they should have a system like Steam that makes all the catalog you previously bought available on their current platform (or as much as possible) but I think these mini consoles really are sold at the right value, if for the box and controllers and number of games. It's just a bummer about scalper leeches buying them up.

I've never even heard of Robot Wars. Checked it out, not my cup of tea. Niche market.

Really interesting that a Fire stick can run N64 emulation as well as it does, I didn't know that. Even with some performance issues, it's serviceable, but it could be distracting if you're just trying to re-experience it. And it's 100% true that emulation on PC is unparalleled - the best thing one can do is buy a semi-decent mini pc with strong single core performance and all the controllers you need.

I think everyone keeps re-buying the same games over and over, for convenience or nostalgia. And we're all willing, so Nintendo takes our money. However, there really has to be a value proposition to justify the ridiculously high price for some of these titles which generally usually isn't there, which is why the homebrew scene is enormously important.

@timmyp1982: smh... What are you even talking about? Everyone knows these are dedicated emulation machines. Nobody's pretending it's anything more than that. That's why everyone puts whatever other games they had as kids on them once they come out. Grow up.

@timmyp1982: I got a NES Classic for MSRP $60. Maybe if you put some effort in, you would've been able to get one, but here it confirms again you're just a butt-hurt sourpuss who's whining because you felt entitled to one. Seriously, what kind of whiny mentally stunted 8 year old neckbeard are you? Really, what kind of a 35 year old acts like this? I'd say don't breed, but I doubt I have to worry about that since your mom's past menopause.

I'd go on to argue why the classic minis aren't in-place of VC, but you're so clueless that you wouldn't be able to even understand it and would start abusing your inability to act like a half-assed adult, so why waste my time. I can safely say you'll never be more than a burger-flipping employee cause of your self-entitled non-stop-victim mindframe and inbred redneck churchgoer attitude.

And yeah, in the real world, outside of your trailer, licensing costs money - every time you release a game in a region/country, you have to pay the license owner, like in your idiotic fanboy example, Square Enix, who are certainly not gonna take a paycut because some man-child somewhere in some dusty trailer is stomping his feet that he didn't get the toy he wanted that he felt entitled to. "Waaah waah waah Nintendo OWES ME stuff waah waaah..." You're a ****ing embarassment to gamers everywhere. I'd say you need a punch in the nuts but it's pretty clear you've never had a pair to begin with, because all you're capable of doing is whining like a little bi*ch without even saying anything of value.

EDIT: Also, you're the dumbass, you can get a Nes Classic on eBay for like twice the MSRP price if you were too lazy or incompetent to beat the scalpers. I'd infinitely rather drop $120 on a Nes Classic than get the ATGames Sega for $80.

@timmyp1982: Only a fanboy would whine about not being able to get FFwhateverthenumber both SNES and GBA versions or whatever for mi WiiU waah waaah. You want two versions?

If all this is so bad, what makes that trashy ATGames Sega "good"?

The FireTV stick is a pretty limited way to experience N64. Peasant. And yeah, games are essentially toys you mangled f***nut.

If they want to throttle unit sales, why not announce it's a limited supply/time only? Wouldn't be anything new, even the PS4 had a retro edition in grey. PR without people thinking they're full of sh1t, huzzah!

Also find it kinda sad that most will end up "unused and boxed" on someones shelf as to not hurt future value...

Nintendo's tried and true formula for getting tons of free advertising:

1. Create hype using nostalgia.

2. Create false shortage blaming supply issues. (Funny how PS2 was best selling console ever but never really had supply issues??)

3. Continue false shortage to generate free publicity.

4. Piss off 98% of Nintendo fans while e-bay scalpers hijack most units.

5. Repeat step 3 ad nauseum.

I'll just report my Twitter response here.

@NintendoAmerica again messing up hard with low-no supply of #snesclassic I hope someday people wake up to this BS and abandon #nentendo

@NintendoAmerica pulling this for almost 40 years since the nes days. Either they are doing it on purpose or are incompetent #snesclassic

Seriously @NintendoAmerica fans deserve better than this constant abuse of supposed "we can't keep up with demand" #snesclassic #nintendo

For once #nintendo fans don't put up with this. Call them out, boycott them till they stop doing this to you #snesclassic #nintendo

the shortage crap is such a joke. If nintendo released breathable air it would be at a shortage too. I am going to task my 55-year old father who knows nothing of video games to find one of these for christmas and he will succeed. Probably by going to GameStop or Wal-Mart.

@gamer20482: But they dont, so if you cant get one from the stores it will be sold online for 2-3 times the original price. Also keep in mind when the system gets hacked to play all snes games, since its an emulator basically, it will be even more expensive online.

It really amazes me how people are "okay" with Nintendo's recycled marketing campaign. No new hi-spec console with original IP's to compete with Sony or Xbox..just another handheld gimmick and gratuitously priced "classics" hidden behind a fabricated supply-and-demand-wall.

meh. the value wasn't there anyways... sega and atari are offering the consumer far better value (more games, options to play with original carts and controllers, wireless controller, etc.) by comparison to this barebone release.

@doctor_mg: yea, perhaps. still, nintendo should have included another two dozen games at the very least for the price. i don't think i will be able to get my hands on the snes mini even if i wanted to... i can play most of the games and more on my altered wii so no worries there. the only downside is i have to play on a tube tv for best image quality. the hdmi connection on the snes mini is a major selling point.

@Xristophoros: Well the SNES classic provides just as much "value" as the NES Classic does for the price (e.g. price you would pay per game on VC). However, the NES Classic wasn't necessarily lauded for its vast amount of games either lol. More games would always be appreciated.

I was able to pre-order 2, luckily. I still have a lot of SNES games on my Wii as well, but the component cables on my 70" TV just make everything look like ass. Tube would be the best, but I don't have room for a tube TV...maybe the garage?

You could always sink your teeth into a raspberry pi. They aren't that expensive. Provided you can't find an SNES classic that is. I wanted an NES Classic and couldn't find one, so instead of Nintendo getting my money for NES games I'm just emulating like I did before.
