Following its original release last fall for Windows PC, Electronic Arts and developer Maxis on Tuesday launched The Sims 4 on Mac across the world. All Sims 4 players who already own the game for Windows PC (digital or physical) are entitled to the Mac version through Origin at no extra cost.

In addition, Maxis notes that existing Sims 4 saves and all of the add-on content you already own for the Windows PC version can be transferred to the Mac edition. Transferring save files requires the use of a Flash drive (because The Sims 4 doesn't support Origin's cloud storage), but it doesn't sound all that difficult. See step-by-step instructions here.

The Sims 4 add-ons, meanwhile, can be re-downloaded on Mac simply by logging into Origin, clicking on The Sims 4, and then the "More Details" button to view the DLC you want to bring over.

Finally, Maxis has published the Sims 4 Mac system requirements, which you can see at the bottom of this post.

The next expansion for The Sims 4 is called "Get to Work" and will be released this April. In addition to four new jobs, the add-on introduces new photography and baking skills, as well as an alien invasion of some sort.

The Sims series also celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. GameSpot recently caught up with Maxis developers about the milestone; you can read our interview here.

The Sims 4 Mac System Requirements:

  • OS: Mac OS X 10.7.5 (Lion)
  • PROCESSOR: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz Processor or better
  • VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce 320M, 9600M, 9400M, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro or better. Video RAM of 256MB or better.
  • MEMORY: 4GB RAM
  • HARD DRIVE: 10 GB of Hard Drive space
  • INPUT: Keyboard and Mouse

It says a lot about EA that you have a specifically state that you can get the Mac version if you have the Windows version. Well at least they are better then CoD.

I am surprised that Electronic Arts offers the Mac version for free for people who already have the Windows version. There has to be a catch; maybe the customer needs to re-buy the expansions again?

<< LINK REMOVED >> I wouldn't hold your breath, doubtful we will ever see any games published by EA ever land on a Linux distribution.
