While the primary focus of Nintendo's recent Treehouse Live July 2020 stream was Paper Mario: The Origami King, we also got our first look at a brand-new game from WayForward, the developer of the Shantae series and River City Girls. That title is Bakugan: Champions of Vestroia, and it arrives on Switch later this year.

Bakugan: Champions of Vestroia is an action-RPG with a unique battle system that blends real-time and turn-based elements. The game features an original storyline with over 100 quests to take on, as well as more than 80 Bakugan to collect. As part of the story, you'll be taking part in a series of Bakugan tournaments while also investigating abnormal earthquake activity that's been happening in town.

During brawls, you'll be running around the field in real-time collecting energy cores for your Bakugan while it does battle. As you collect cores, you'll charge up powerful abilities that your Bakugan can then unleash. In addition to the single-player campaign, you'll be able to battle other players around the world in online brawls.

Bakugan: Champions of Vestroia launches for Switch on November 3. You can check out the first trailer for the game above.

As for Paper Mario, Nintendo gave us an extended look at some gameplay of the upcoming title, showcasing one of the open environments you'll explore early on in the adventure and one of the first boss encounters you'll face. The Origami King releases on Switch this Friday, July 17. You can learn more about the game in our Paper Mario: The Origami King pre-order guide.
