No Caption Provided Even though the Rock Band and Guitar Hero franchises are taking leaves of absence this year, 2011 won't be without a guitar game from a major publisher. Today, Ubisoft announced a list of new songs for Rocksmith, most of which are not featured in either Rock Band or Guitar Hero.

The new 22 tracks announced today for Rocksmith include tunes from both contemporary and classic groups like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Black Keys, Titus Andronicus, the White Stripes, Blur, The Cure, and Soundgarden. According to Ubisoft, the game will ship with 45 songs, meaning the publisher still has a number of additional songs to announce.

In Rocksmith, players will strum along on actual strings. Ubisoft is betting that the game can avoid the fate of Guitar Hero because its players won't soon grow tired of learning how to play an actual guitar. The game will come with an input jack that is compatible with "most electric guitars" for play on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but not the Wii.

A standard version (without guitar) of Rocksmith is due out this fall for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC priced at $79.99. Additionally, a $200 Gibson custom edition is reportedly in the works.
