Red Dead Redemption 2's Release Date Updated On Xbox One And PS4

It's high noon.

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on October 26, 2018. The announcement was made on the official Rockstar Games blog where the company apologised for a delay. The game was originally due out during Spring 2018, following an earlier delay from fall 2017. According to Rockstar, this new delay affords the studio extra time to improve the game.

"We are excited to announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26 2018," it said. "We apologize to everyone disappointed by this delay. While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish."

Now Playing: GS News Update: Red Dead Redemption 2 Delayed, New Release Date Confirmed For PS4 And Xbox One

It continued: "We sincerely thank you for your patience and hope that when you get to play the game, you will agree the wait will have been worth it. In the meantime, please check out these screenshots from the game. We look forward to sharing a lot more information with you in the coming weeks." Alongside the release date announcement, a selection of new screenshots have also been released, which you can check out below.

As previously detailed, Red Dead Redemption 2 follows protagonist Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang "as they rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive."

In May 2017, we got new screenshots showing off various environments, and prior to that, we got Redemption 2's first trailer. More recently, in September 2017, Rockstar released a second Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer teasing the game's story, combat, characters, and some notable moments from throughout.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to both PS4 and Xbox One; however there's no word on a PC version as of yet. The first Red Dead Redemption has not been released on PC, but Rockstar's last major release, Grand Theft Auto V, made its way to PC.

Interestingly, in December 2017, Grand Theft Auto V players discovered references to secret missions in an update that connects to Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar later sent GTA Online players an email in-game that provides a clue to help them pursue "rumors of a lost relic from the frontier." Completing this mission awarded players with a Double-Action Revolver for use in Red Dead Redemption 2.

One of the big questions surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2 is how the huge success of GTA Online will factor into it. Although Rockstar hasn't announced an online component to the game, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of the studio's parent company Take-Two, previously said to expect a "recurrent consumer spending" element to be included in most if not all of the company's games going forward. He left the exact form this model will take ambiguous, however.

"We've said that we aim to have recurrent consumer spending options for every title that we put out at this company," Zelnick said. "It may not always be an online model. It may not, probably won't always be, a virtual currency model, but there'll be some ability to engage on an ongoing basis with our titles after release across the board."

With the amount of money they are making on GTA 5, I expect Red Dead, to be on PC and GTA 6 , to be the most detailed city ever created. With graphics so mind blowing, they make me go WOW, more than Crysis did in 2006. Havent been WOW'd by graphics since Crysis 1 on PC.

@savagerodent: Come on. The step from say Doom 3 and half life 2 , to Crysis 1, was one hell of a leap.

@nyran125tk: Sure it was a big jump, but moving around in an actual 3D space was a big game changer, both in visuals and gameplay. Nothing will be as big of a leap as an added dimension.

So heres a thing. While we are all waiting for Red Dead Redemption 2 why dont Rockstar jump on everyones band wagon and drop a Battle Royale Mode on GTA 5. Come on its a no brainer really. Just imagine if PUBG was running in Rockstars engine. Insane right?!

Hopefully they can keep with the style that RDR had, im playing it now and it's definitely clunky, showing it's age for sure but the atmosphere is still top notch.. also hoping the next one does without that hard curveball ending.

i have been commenting for the last 9 months on various articles and forums that red dead would come out in october as i know first hand what they are like for delays since i worked for them back in the early days in both the customer support department and returns. god help any publisher who releases their game between 22nd of october and 10th november as red dead is gonna destroy any chance of sales those games had. no game on earth including call of duty or crackdown can compete with a Rockstar North game. good luck

I have no problem with the delay. None at all. There will be plenty of games to play until then, and as a grown-ass gamer, I've come to prefer delays to endless fixes and patches.

@heavleemetal: Those microtransactions are coming to RDR2 as well. In such a forceful wave that you'll be cowering.

If they butcher the SP RDR2 (i.e. less than 50 hr SP content) then it is a skip from me. And I think the game will be always online with microtransactions up the wazoo... GTA Online clearly showed them the (wrong) way

@fanirama: They need to be careful. It could ruin them. GTA is the first time in a while that they didn't even bother with single player DLC.

@Shantmaster_K: I understand why you dislike it but, as far as I'm concerned, if it stops sales for the likes of Destiny, Battlefront, CoD, FIFA et al then it's a good thing despite our wait for what we want.

I just hope we get a good single player story. Admit it, after GTA Online most of their development time and fine-tuning, DLC etc etc will be how they can make RDR Online as profitable as possible.

Im perfectly happy for this game to be delayed, gives me time to finish several games in backlog plus time to play Shadow of Colossus, Dark Souls remastered and God Of War 4 that are comming soon.

maybe was "delayed" because is too soon for "recurrent consumer spending" .. too soon, too harsh for them :-)

So, Pretty much exactly when I was expecting it to launch. Of course I'm expecting another delay unless shark card sales in GTA V begin to slow down. Rockstar needs to start the cow cards rolling out.

I have to wonder if the recent backlash against loot boxes and NBA 2k being a part of that has caused 2k to redesign their "reoccurring player spending" model, which caused the delay. Or perhaps making a compelling online mode is part of the delay too.

Honestly, I don't know why any developer announces a release date so far in advance any more. Release dates almost always slip.

I honestly yearn for the day when we didn't have hard release dates, and a game could go from being "gold" to on store shelves within a couple of weeks.

Well, Rockstar almost always delivers it with their games, so I guess the delay was to be expected. Frankly, I don't believe the delay has to do with multiplayer "issues" (I sincerely hope not). Let's all remember that GTA V came out without a completely finished multiplayer portion (back in 2013, on the PS3/Xbox 360).

That all being said, I hope that in the near future game companies start to charge separately for singleplayer and multiplayer (it might probably never happen, but we can only hope). The most recent COD game was a good example of why such business practice is necessary. A full US$ 60 price-tag for a mere few hours single-player experience that isn't worth even 20 bucks. I for sure hope Rockstar doesn't go down the same way.
