Red Dead Redemption 2's Release Date Updated On Xbox One And PS4

It's high noon.

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on October 26, 2018. The announcement was made on the official Rockstar Games blog where the company apologised for a delay. The game was originally due out during Spring 2018, following an earlier delay from fall 2017. According to Rockstar, this new delay affords the studio extra time to improve the game.

"We are excited to announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26 2018," it said. "We apologize to everyone disappointed by this delay. While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish."

Now Playing: GS News Update: Red Dead Redemption 2 Delayed, New Release Date Confirmed For PS4 And Xbox One

It continued: "We sincerely thank you for your patience and hope that when you get to play the game, you will agree the wait will have been worth it. In the meantime, please check out these screenshots from the game. We look forward to sharing a lot more information with you in the coming weeks." Alongside the release date announcement, a selection of new screenshots have also been released, which you can check out below.

Click image to view in full screen gallery

As previously detailed, Red Dead Redemption 2 follows protagonist Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang "as they rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive."

In May 2017, we got new screenshots showing off various environments, and prior to that, we got Redemption 2's first trailer. More recently, in September 2017, Rockstar released a second Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer teasing the game's story, combat, characters, and some notable moments from throughout.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to both PS4 and Xbox One; however there's no word on a PC version as of yet. The first Red Dead Redemption has not been released on PC, but Rockstar's last major release, Grand Theft Auto V, made its way to PC.

Interestingly, in December 2017, Grand Theft Auto V players discovered references to secret missions in an update that connects to Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar later sent GTA Online players an email in-game that provides a clue to help them pursue "rumors of a lost relic from the frontier." Completing this mission awarded players with a Double-Action Revolver for use in Red Dead Redemption 2.

One of the big questions surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2 is how the huge success of GTA Online will factor into it. Although Rockstar hasn't announced an online component to the game, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of the studio's parent company Take-Two, previously said to expect a "recurrent consumer spending" element to be included in most if not all of the company's games going forward. He left the exact form this model will take ambiguous, however.

"We've said that we aim to have recurrent consumer spending options for every title that we put out at this company," Zelnick said. "It may not always be an online model. It may not, probably won't always be, a virtual currency model, but there'll be some ability to engage on an ongoing basis with our titles after release across the board."

I'm starting to have doubts about this game. I bought the original on release, as I did VC, SA and GTA V. Now I will be waiting for honest reviews to pop up across youtube detailing loot boxes and various micro transactions, to see how they affect the sp. If there is zero relevance, I'll buy the game. if the sp is a broken, half finished mess that requires dlc and loot boxes to complete, they can go... themselves.

@soul_starter: When has RockStar been known to screw players over with micro transactions? Honest question.

@quis89: I never said they had, but the gaming environment is very different now than it was 5 years ago with the release of GTA V. Not to mention how R* shafted GTAs sp DLC in favour of online, shark cards and all that rubbish. Some time ago, they said they were looking for continuous monetisation in every game release, which is basically micro transactions, something EA has done.

So my point is, I am going to be cautious and check every detail of the game before buying it, rather than it being a day one purchase like many previous R* releases.

Only Rockstar could say that every single one of their games will have RECURRENT (definition: occurring often or repeatedly) microtransactions without it resulting in mass outrage.

@Keaze_: personally i kick up a stink no matter who does it. EA Activision Blizzard Ubisoft even the beloved Rockstart no body gets special treatment from me when it comes to MTX. yet some sites are clearly bias towards some devs. for example the big sites IGN Gamespot ETC will always give any mainline mario or zelda game atleast a 9. same with bethesda game studio games Skyrim/Fallout out 9's and will give anything blizzard or rockstar a 9.

not saying they make bad games but some games are just not 9's for example for me most things blizzard create are vastly overrated same goes for nintendo. oh shit ye i forgot about naughty dog on that list.

@Keaze_:

I could care less what they do in Multi player. I play Rockstar games for the single player campaigns, that are mostly bug free and true open world.

@Keaze_: It did cause quite a stir across youtube channels. Thing is, so far, R* have not implemented this in single player experiences. If it stays that way, I personally won't care, although RDR2 would not be a day one or full price purchase for me.

Graphically it does look better than The Witcher 3, so I will give them that. If the world size is around the same size as GTA 5, and the frame rate is smooth and consistent than that would be a great technical achievement.

@Arkhalipso: ive seen the game in action and completed it. please don't assume something just because i think a game looks better than a game you clearly hold very close to your heart. your gamespot picture says a lot about the type of person you are in terms of games so your response doesn't really surprise me.

Like what has already been said AC origins looks better and sorry to say so does witcher. that's open world examples of games that look nicer. another game that looks way better FACT but isn't an open world is Gears of War 4. play that on a PC at 4k or Xbox one x. max settings and tell me Horizon looks better. sorry but it doesn't i've got both Xbox and PS4 i like horizon a lot personally it was my favourite game of 2017 but i can admit the games i listed simply look nicer.

please note i said look nicer not saying they are better. personally i think witcher is better than everything i listed in terms of open worlds. gears you can't really compare in terms of being a better game because its trying different things. but as ive said i really liked horizon and it was my favourite game of 2017 just sorry to say some games look nicer.

@xnshd: You're telling me not to assume things yet you assume something based on my profile picture. Hypocrite much? I guess it's just a matter of opinion and what we pay attention to. I'm not trying to be disrespectful, just stating my point. No one can deny what Guerrilla Games achieved on a standard PS4 though, which is on par with any good loooking game out there, and even surpassing most in certain aspects. I agree that TW3 is a better game overall, but when it comes to how good they look, nothing beats HZO IMO, and I've seen them both (AC and TW3) at max settings at 4k on a 4k monitor. Like I said, it's not about textures, it's about everything, from lightning to the movement of the grass and enemy/character animations during combat, or even landscape, etc. Guerrilla is on a completely different level. Imagine what hey could do if they were not restricted by console limitations.

The pessimist in me thinks this delay at least partly in response to the loot crate fiasco of Battlefront 2, in that RS is re-configuring their micro transaction implementation.

@lionheartssj1: Just keep it away from the sp experience and let the experience be a full, self contained story without the need for dlc to tie up loose ends or forced links to mp.

They gotta tweak the online portion with just enough micro transactions and pay to win so the people don't raise their pitchforks.

@WhoIsTheDrizzle: They released GTAV before the online portion was available to play so I doubt thats the reason. By the way, love the Aqua Teen reference in your name. Master Shake is the best, especially when he pisses off Carl.

this sounds about right; we know this will be the biggest game of the year, makes sense to have it out in time to make it part of the black friday craziness; where they only have 2 in stock of it for the sale; and the others priced as usual. rockstar developers deserve it tho; we get quality with them, no doubt

@Dragon_Nexus: Too bad Rockstar can't team up with Ubisoft and add 10,000 collectibles to RDR2.

And more fetch quest side missions. What's more fun than open world fetch quests? Oh wait, collectibles are, of course. Silly me.

@Dragon_Nexus: The part that pisses me off is that they said: "players weren't spending enough on cards".

Like what the hell is that supposed to be a BAD thing? We're SUPPOSED to buy these shark cards?

Shark cards aren't a stand-alone video game. We gamers did our part by buying the game itself. They can go to hell with their microtransaction BS!

@PSYCHOV3N0M: What really highlighted it was Nerdcubed's video where he took a chunk of patreon money and was going to blow it for his...100k subscriber? Million subscriber? Some milestone episode. It lasted a few minutes and he bought, like...two things.

He thought he'd be able to make some grand, long episode with the money he'd saved up for it and it was gone instantly with little to show for it. GTAV is just a paradise for rich oil shieks and nothing more now.
