Red Dead Redemption 2's Release Date Updated On Xbox One And PS4

It's high noon.

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on October 26, 2018. The announcement was made on the official Rockstar Games blog where the company apologised for a delay. The game was originally due out during Spring 2018, following an earlier delay from fall 2017. According to Rockstar, this new delay affords the studio extra time to improve the game.

"We are excited to announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26 2018," it said. "We apologize to everyone disappointed by this delay. While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish."

Now Playing: GS News Update: Red Dead Redemption 2 Delayed, New Release Date Confirmed For PS4 And Xbox One

It continued: "We sincerely thank you for your patience and hope that when you get to play the game, you will agree the wait will have been worth it. In the meantime, please check out these screenshots from the game. We look forward to sharing a lot more information with you in the coming weeks." Alongside the release date announcement, a selection of new screenshots have also been released, which you can check out below.

As previously detailed, Red Dead Redemption 2 follows protagonist Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang "as they rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive."

In May 2017, we got new screenshots showing off various environments, and prior to that, we got Redemption 2's first trailer. More recently, in September 2017, Rockstar released a second Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer teasing the game's story, combat, characters, and some notable moments from throughout.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to both PS4 and Xbox One; however there's no word on a PC version as of yet. The first Red Dead Redemption has not been released on PC, but Rockstar's last major release, Grand Theft Auto V, made its way to PC.

Interestingly, in December 2017, Grand Theft Auto V players discovered references to secret missions in an update that connects to Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar later sent GTA Online players an email in-game that provides a clue to help them pursue "rumors of a lost relic from the frontier." Completing this mission awarded players with a Double-Action Revolver for use in Red Dead Redemption 2.

One of the big questions surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2 is how the huge success of GTA Online will factor into it. Although Rockstar hasn't announced an online component to the game, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of the studio's parent company Take-Two, previously said to expect a "recurrent consumer spending" element to be included in most if not all of the company's games going forward. He left the exact form this model will take ambiguous, however.

"We've said that we aim to have recurrent consumer spending options for every title that we put out at this company," Zelnick said. "It may not always be an online model. It may not, probably won't always be, a virtual currency model, but there'll be some ability to engage on an ongoing basis with our titles after release across the board."

@Arguyle: You seriously have PlayStation fever? Go get your Tylenol and come down because I don't see any P5 until 2020 or the earliest Christmas 2019. The current PS is selling too well for them to rush for another console. Xbox One X will be the most powerful console out there for a while.

@angrycreep: That doesn't prevent them from delaying it till then! Not sure what's the point with the fever... my comment was loud and clear. I don't care **** all about any Xbox/PS pissing context. If I'm Rockstar, I just want the bigger bang. That's a launching title, aaaaaaand a huge production. They just keep polishing until the new console and that's it. Who cares if you're pissed, soon it will be forgotten.

@Arguyle: That is not likely before 2020. Sony don't have any need to hurry with a new console. Unless there is a significant downturn in sales on PS4 this year and that looks unlikely based on the games coming out this year.

Personally i prefer the Xbox One X but i do love the few exclusives I buy for the PS4/PRO. I know there are many but most don't interest me personally is all.

@deviltaz35: That's exactly how I am. All of my multiplat games now go on the X and the PS4 is only for the exclusives now that it's the weaker system, but has the best exclusives of any console imo.

@Vodoo: Yeah i guess i am bit different to most people as i didn't really like Horizon Zero Dawn or The Last of Us all that much but i loved the Uncharted series and back on PS3 i loved Killzone Series as well .

I even had the move gun for Killzone 3 :)

Especially Killzone 2 was my favourite though which had great mechanics that had a real weight to them.

As for Xbox i am looking forward to Fable but yeah i doubt we will see much before at least 2019 in that regard.

I am really looking forward to Spiderman and God of War more so than Last of us 2.

It's really weird as i preferred the PS3 over the 360 even though that was an unpopular choice and now i much prefer the Xbox One X over the Pro which again is an unpopular choice lol

I just love the dashboard on the xbox now , it is just really easy to pin apps to start up and run most of my media from it .

I use an oppo 203 as a standalone 4k player so that part of it never bothered me on console for movies from disc.

Xbox has always been popular in Australia from the outset thanks to the Halo franchise which was massive over here in popularity . The only problem is it is such a small market as a hole that is barely puts a dent in overall sales of a system or software.

Personally i lost interest in Halo since Bungie said goodbye to it but i am hopeful the Masterchief collection may finally be good once 343 get the patches done for the X.

@deviltaz35: I didnt own a ps3 last gen so i bought a ps4 this gen to get caugt up on all these amazing exclusives that were getting praised. I bought the unchatred series PS4 edition and I thought the uncharted series was amazing. one of the greatest series i ever played. Uncharted 2 was by far the best out of all 4. I loved that series so much it was worth the money to invest in a ps4.

So hyped coming off beating the uncharted series i was super excited to play the Last Of Us. I couldnt get past the first 2 hours of the last of us before i was bored out of my mind and quit. it was SO slow, a walking simulator out the gate it just killed my motivation to even play it again and i wanted to love it. I tried multiple times to get into it and i just couldnt. So im with you on that game. Same could be said with God of war with me. I played that a for a few hours and just quit I couldnt get into it at all i again i wanted to love it.

@deviltaz35: actually the 360 was the more popular. The ps3 sales stalled for 2 years because of price and games. 360 hit stride with Xbox Live and being released first. The ps3 picked up steam forwards the last 3 years with the bigger franchises. Which is why Sony is where they are. The ps3/ps4 has had some amazing new exclusive ips. Xbox as a whole not really. 2 of the biggest current franchises for Xbox is Ori and Cuphead. Both Halo and Gears were mediocre at best. As of now the current Xbox gen is pretty dead. The 4K and the game pass plus upcoming features are being setup for the next console. It’s already been rumored that other then Crackdown don’t expect much in exclusives.

This gen ps4 did it right and Xbox did what the ps3 did. Came out with a crazy high price, canceled game after game, shut down studios, crappy dashboard that has gone through so many iterations, and has released 3 consoles in 4 years. A lot of people jumped ship to the ps4. It’s gonna take more then Fable to get the Xbox brand back to where it was.

Even the X1X isn’t worth it. The hard drive space alone for the 4K games is crazy. 8-10 games on a 1tb drive. The price for 4K isn’t worth. Having the best hardware doesn’t equal, best console. As Nintendo again proved. Plus being first out the door mean equal more sales. The 360 showed that.

Spencer has said so many different things I don’t know what to believe. So far he hasn’t done much. Instead creating new ips his has tried to use 3rd party(Tomb Raider) to compete against Uncharted. Halo and gears haven’t done it so now let’s try a Fable game. A second Fable game announced this gen. Now with the rumor again of Xbox looking to buy a game studio shows again they are in bad shape. Retro hasn’t done crap. Lionhead was closed. There is a reason Xbox sales are no longer announced.

ehh I'm not as excited for R* games as I used to be. GTAV was my least favorite GTA and they only seem to care in supporting online multiplayer now.

With Leslie Benzies gone I have a feeling that the single player experience won't reach the same height as their older games used to.

@Arguyle: I am not angry about the delay if it is to make the game better and I am all for that. Until it comes out I will enjoy the other games that will be coming out. I hope the change is really good for the wait.

One of the few games that really was going to push me back into playing console games again. I may still pick up a PS4 for games like Detroit: Become Human and Horizon: Zero Dawn, but RDR 2 was the big push.

Oh well, maybe this is a good thing anyway. Not expecting it to be bug free as that is impossible, but maybe it will make it less of a mess.

They need more time to figure out how they are going to implement sharkcards into this game.

They'll get a pass though because its Rockstar.

Here, let me translate:

October 26 2018 = March 15 2020

"we require a little extra time for polish" = "we are now beginning the single player campaign"

I expect it'll get delayed into early 2019. If so, it sure better not have a lot of bugs.

Can't complain too much, one reason being they always and I do mean always delay multiple times but they also always tend to release quality games.

all the impatient gamers here will bitch, but i for one am tired of half baked games. Rockstar is great, despite not get any GTAV single player DLC, RDR1 was great and if they need more time to get RDR2 just right... hell take more time. I would rather buy a $60 (truly) finished game, polish and all, than a near finished $60 P.O.S

The first game I'll be going out of my way to buy used. Rockstar used to be at the top of my list of favourite developers but the fact that they cut planned, high quality single player DLC for GTA V so they could make low quality, MP "DLC" left a bad taste in my mouth.
