Red Dead Redemption 2's Release Date Updated On Xbox One And PS4

It's high noon.

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on October 26, 2018. The announcement was made on the official Rockstar Games blog where the company apologised for a delay. The game was originally due out during Spring 2018, following an earlier delay from fall 2017. According to Rockstar, this new delay affords the studio extra time to improve the game.

"We are excited to announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26 2018," it said. "We apologize to everyone disappointed by this delay. While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish."

Now Playing: GS News Update: Red Dead Redemption 2 Delayed, New Release Date Confirmed For PS4 And Xbox One

It continued: "We sincerely thank you for your patience and hope that when you get to play the game, you will agree the wait will have been worth it. In the meantime, please check out these screenshots from the game. We look forward to sharing a lot more information with you in the coming weeks." Alongside the release date announcement, a selection of new screenshots have also been released, which you can check out below.

Click image to view in full screen gallery

As previously detailed, Red Dead Redemption 2 follows protagonist Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang "as they rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive."

In May 2017, we got new screenshots showing off various environments, and prior to that, we got Redemption 2's first trailer. More recently, in September 2017, Rockstar released a second Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer teasing the game's story, combat, characters, and some notable moments from throughout.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to both PS4 and Xbox One; however there's no word on a PC version as of yet. The first Red Dead Redemption has not been released on PC, but Rockstar's last major release, Grand Theft Auto V, made its way to PC.

Interestingly, in December 2017, Grand Theft Auto V players discovered references to secret missions in an update that connects to Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar later sent GTA Online players an email in-game that provides a clue to help them pursue "rumors of a lost relic from the frontier." Completing this mission awarded players with a Double-Action Revolver for use in Red Dead Redemption 2.

One of the big questions surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2 is how the huge success of GTA Online will factor into it. Although Rockstar hasn't announced an online component to the game, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of the studio's parent company Take-Two, previously said to expect a "recurrent consumer spending" element to be included in most if not all of the company's games going forward. He left the exact form this model will take ambiguous, however.

"We've said that we aim to have recurrent consumer spending options for every title that we put out at this company," Zelnick said. "It may not always be an online model. It may not, probably won't always be, a virtual currency model, but there'll be some ability to engage on an ongoing basis with our titles after release across the board."

@aross2004: Well, it wasn't trash, not even close, but it was definitely overrated. My main grip with RDR is that it had poor framerate, was way too easy(played on highest difficulty and without auto-aim) and the guns in the game were extremely boring. No challenge and boring guns is not a good combination. Boring guns is the main reason we don't see too many wild west based games.

Although, one wild west game that was really good was "Call of Juarez - Gunslinger". <<<< the only good Call of Juarez game.

I was hoping for a remastered version of the first game on PS4. When this shit came out it didn't motivated me at all. Now they are looking like trying to pull out a multiplayer mode on this shit like in the GTA V. GTA V has the most shorted campaign ever considering that they have 3 main characters. What a shame.

Is it going to have the same shitty writing and boring characters as the original? If so then pass.

Takeaway from this article is "We need to delay this game a year to implement our new micro-transaction model into the game, thank you for all yo moneys."

@Angelraid: Highly doubt it. This is Rockstar. If they've decided their game needs delayed to get polished properly, I'm all behind it.

@VakarianGirl: The same Rockstar behind Sharkcards and GTA V online trash. Oh and look at what 2k games did to their NBA game with their oppressive lootboxes. 2k has become about making the player spend more, rather than creating a great game. Don't hold your breath that this is for polish.

@csward: You don't have to buy sharkcards. And for the people who don't have a lot of time to play, Sharkcards can be a convenient way to get cash without putting in the time.

@caj1986: Sort of, but at the same time I'm already bored of this "Microtransactions blablabla"

But as long as I don't have to be the one hammering about it here all the time I guess it can be good for me.

@decadentdescent: agreed. When Rockstar delays it will only make the game better. Less chance of finding a bug, glitch or abnormality within the code. I’d sooner wait and be able to play without distractions(issues) and enjoy the polished game.

If they do to this game what they've done with GTA V, then I have absolutely no interest in it anyway. I'll be damned if I play some stupid Red Dead Online with flying horses and laser revolvers.

@Icarian: It was kind of underwhelming but thats because the game takes place at the end of the wild west and after all of John's escapades.

With the 2nd one being a prequel it is going to be ALOT better with train robbing and bank heists.

@banhammer: My main issue with the game was the second act. That part in Mexico. It was badly written and didn't make much sense. Marston was doing missions for both the army and the rebels and no one seemed to give a damn about it. One funny example is the train missions in the act: first you defend the train with the army and then 5 minutes later you capture the train with the rebels.

Marston just walks to the rebel leader: "Hey, I just killed 200 of you defending that train, but you know what? I'll help you next time."

Much better version would've been if Marston was forced to choose at the start which side to help.

@Icarian: Pretty much. Of course, there's plenty of distance between the orgasmic praise heaped on RDR and an actually bad game. RDR was alright, it was well made, polished, good voice work, and some likeable characters ... it just had the same problem all of Rockstar's games have had since San Andreas; it was padded out so long the gameplay got boring well before the story was done.

I made it to Mexico, realized everything I'd do up to that point was basically for naught and that I was essentially starting over on a new map, and decided that was enough Red Dead for me.

@Mogan: You didn't miss much. I replayed the game after I quit where you did many years ago. The 2nd and 3rd acts are much worse than the 1st, unfortunately.

They never get it right.

It could get delayed again to 2019 who knows.

@quinnd6: They don't give out too many release dates until final year of release in most cases though . The rest they just go with the flow on what the media outlets and youtubers guess will be the release date.

@banhammer: I agree. Announce later so you have something substantial to show, details are less likely to change, and hype only needs to be kept alive for a few months.

@Atzenkiller: easy killer, not sure what the anger is about....im glad you want to know about games years before you can play them, i for one am old enough to remember release dates being announced months before with hardly any marketing. there is zero reason to tell us about grand theft auto 6 right now when we cant play it until 2020. and what i said still holds, sorry youre on the side of hyping a game way too early

@banhammer: Maybe I'm just not getting hyped too much when I hear that a game is gonna come out in a year or two at the earliest. Why should I? It's good to know that a sequel to a game you really liked is coming out, no matter how far off it still is. Otherwise I'm patient and prefer it when games are getting delayed because they need more polish. Because we all know how it ends up if the publisher decides to release them early anyway.

Check out Mass Effect Andromeda if you haven't. Although no amount of time would have been able to fix that game.

@Atzenkiller: you lost me, the simple fact that games get cancelled is more than enough reason to not announce a game years ahead of release. games get delayed, but no one would care....if the companies only held off their release schedule which we dont need to know in the first place. who needs 3 years to save 60 dollars? and if thats anyones scenario you shouldnt be worried about games. mvp baseball had 1 commercial that played just 2 months before, the only other ads were in store cardboard cuts of the game cover featuring randy johnson and miguel tejada....mvp is still regarded as one of the best baseball games ever and guess what, it didnt need a 3 year marketing cycle to drum up interest.

@banhammer: No idea where you got that stuff about saving up for a game from. Are you spending so much money on games that you actually have to do so? I see nothing bad whatsoever about being informed, no matter how early. If you get massively hyped for months or years before a game comes out and then get just as disappointed if it gets delayed or cancelled that's your personal issue. But knowing in advance that something you're looking for is gonna come out anytime soon is never a bad thing.

You really should stop buying so much into the PR stuff and getting overhyped like a little girl. Not that I know why you would get hyped years in advance, when all the marketing usually takes places a few months before release at most.

RDR was outstanding, and I've been looking forward to RDR2 ever since it was announced over a year ago.

Reading news of the delay just made me shrug, though.

Reasons: still backlogged from an amazing 2017; wary of RDR2 microtransactions; always expecting delays of AAA titles; usually expecting weeks and/or months of patches & updates when titles do meet their release dates without delays; not fully convinced that the story will be great as the first game's story was. (Yeah, some quests / missions were redundant, and some were goofy in an immersion-breaking way. The main story was real high quality, however.)

So, yeah. It's out when it's out, and I'm not holding my breath 'til then.

@Renunciation: I just thought it was always too good for the platforms it was on. It just looked so horrible and jaggy i just couldn't get into it. I do want to try it on the Xbox One X though with the x 16 anisotropic filtering that console offers as it may look much better.

It was a shame it was never brought to PC.
